New Fortissimo drivers

by Rick Catto » Mon, 06 Jan 2003 00:14:25

Quick heads-up to anyone who may have missed these over Christmas. On
Chirstmas Eve, Hercules released a unified driver for Fortissimo 2 & 3 and
Digifire cards. (Over at www.hercules-uk.com - click on 'Support/drivers' at
the top of the page.)  Once you get to the download page, then unless you
need access to the MIDI soundbanks, use the "Small Download" link about
halfway down the grey frame, which saves about 8 meg.

After months and months of stuttering, CTD's and BSOD's within GPL, I've
just run a long session with full sound acceleration, plenty of fx,
(including collisions!) and not once has the game stuttered or thrown me
out. Looks promising so far...

Sorry if this is old news,

Cheers all,

Rick.

Rick, do you have a Hercules 2 or 3?
Can you use full dx acceleration in GPL?
Do you use Dx9?

(I'm still choosing between an Audigy Player or a Fortissimo 2)

:-)

Carl,

I've got the Fortissimo II Digital Edition, and am running full dx
acceleration under dx8.1. Like I said, it's early days yet, but still no
problems to report.

I don't know anything about the Audigy, but until today, would have warned
you off the Fortissimo. I was running it under XP Home and getting lock-ups
which weren't solved by going back to WinME. So far, though, using this new
driver.... :)

Regards,

Rick.

Wow.  Going to grab the new driver for my F3, thanks for the post.

Are you using WinXP?
Are you running GPL and/or Nascar 2002?

Thanks :-)

You are a lucky dog!  I've moved from SBLive to Fortissimo III in a last
ditch effort to rid myself of sound that makes the game undriveable.

What did I get?  Bad sound *and* stutters!  See fairly recent thread for
details...

Using both supplied drivers and latest downloaded...

Just had a thought, though.  Could remnants of SBLive drivers be screwing
things up for me?  Anyone know if there's a "SBLive Destroyer" out there?

Regards,

Mark

Do you have any idea how I find this sort of thing out on a K7S5A mobo?  I
believe it's an SIS chipset but the documentation is sparse, to say the
least...

Woo hoo.  The crackling in GPL is gone as is the stuttering.

To be fair, I haven't had sound problems in any of the dozens of other
games or audio application that I use, so I just sort of assumed I'd
have to live with it in GPL.  Even Mafia, which is listed as one of
the games that was having problems with the earlier drivers, ran
smoothly on my system sound-wise.

Phew - glad it wasn't just me they worked for!
