Hercules Fortissimo II tech advice

The tech website for Hercules gives the following advice..

"If the card is not sharing its IRQ, make sure that none of the other boards
in your computer are sharing their IRQs (verify the graphics board in
particular and also the board used by the software). Also make sure that the
drivers for all your boards have been updated."

OK - the sound card has it's own IRQ, but IRQ 16 has 2 entries,

1. NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200
2. Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

Can anyone tell me (a) what '2' is, and (b) how to change the IRQ's
manually, (the "Use automatic settings" box is checked and greyed-out.)

Cheers,

Rick.

Welcome to ACPI  :)  It's technically ok to share IRQs on
the PCI bus.  It sounds like Herc are trying to workaround
an incompatibility.

Anyway..

IEEE1394 is firewire I think.  Someone correct me if I'm
wrong...

Under Windows 2000 you can't change resource settings for
ACPI assigned devices.  I had this problem - everything was
sharing IRQ9 ( sound, video and network).  While it is a part
of the PCI spec to allow the sharing of IRQs, the old PC tech
in me didn't like it.

The solution with Win2k is changing the resource allocation
manually in the BIOS (I can do it slot by slot with A7M266)
and THEN install windows 2000.  Changing the values in the
bios post install doesn't work with win2k - there is a technical
note about it on microsofts website, search the knowledge base
for Windows 2000, ACPI and IRQ9.  Ultimately I just did a
quick re-install of win2k after adjusting the BIOS and I get warm
fuzzy feelings looking at my IRQ utilisation.

Win98/ME etc will re-enumerate devices when you reset them
in the bios without needing any help.  I'm not sure about XP flavours
- I'm avoiding XP until my friends stop complaining about it.

Thanks for the info - I'll have a look at the MS knowledge base, now that I
know what I'm looking for!

Incidentally, should my AGP GF4 be using PCI resources? (Sorry if it's a
dumb question.)

Cheers,

Rick.
