F1RS Problems

by Mike Burges » Wed, 06 Jan 1999 04:00:00

I posted this last week but got a weird mesage about "no such article in
group" Some people responded but they got the same message so here goes
again...
I have a problem with F1RS crashing intermittently. Sometimes at the
beginning of a race and sometimes after a lap or two. Almost never get
past 4 or 5 laps.

and an Ensonique sound card. My joystick is a Gravis PC Pro. All drivers
are at latest levels. Have tried all suggestions in UBISOFT's FAQ sheet
as well as suggestions from the help desk.
Does anyone out there have similar config and/or problems that may have
found a way around the crashes? When it crashes it takes me back to the
Win95 desktop. I like the game but it drives me nuts from all the
crashes. C'mon GP3!!!!

Is your CPU overclocked? If so, set it back to normal. One more thing, did
you set a permanent size for the swap file? Again, if so, try letting Win
handle it. Sorry, if you have tried all these.

No, my CPU isn't overclocked, and I tried my swap file both
ways..neither way helped. Thanks anyway

Mike,

I answered your post on January 3rd along with a few other people.  Having
the same sound card as yourself I found that the following resolved my
problem.

Try changing the following in your snd_cpa.ini file located in
c:/ubisoft/f1rs/cpa/dll directory:

[DLL_Sxd]
Unconditionnal=None
Default=WAVPW

I assume your file currently indicates WAVX2.

I hope this works for you.

Steve

P.S Let me know if you don't get this message ;-)

I had a similar problem when my hard disk was getting
full (<20Mb free).

Actually if your AudioPCI has the 1370 chipset you should be using the
latest drivers from Ensoniq and the 3D soundpatch from Ubisoft. The
game produces an awesome 3D sound with that card. You can hear the
cars right next to you. It really increases the SA. His problem will be
fixed
once he gets a 3dfx card :-)

Nope. The four letter word for *you* would be "blow it out your ass" :-)
