ICR2 has savegames! Sort of :-)

I am an avid player of F1GP & ICR. My machine is a DX2/66 w 16MB ram. I
tried the ICR2 demo & promptly purchased ICR2. I must say that I am suprised
at the VGA framerate. It seems much improved over ICR. ICR2 does have many
extras that made it painless for me to re-purchase the game.

1) Much improved GFX and better framerate. I am running with all of the
GFX maxed out. 30+ opponants.

2) AI is much improved. The opponants actually back off in a corner &
rarely rearend you. Driving in a crowd was always a problem with ICR.
Not so with ICR2.

3) The way you activate the pit options is much *MUCH* improved. You
setup all of the pit options BEFORE you pit. Then you pit & the crew
does its job. A big improvement.

4) There is a SAVE GAME. I haven't seen much talk about this. So that
is why I mention it. Problem is, that when you re-load the saved "weekend"
you basicly re-start the race. Only you do this in your current running
order. Almost like a YELLOW flag. While I really like ICR2, is am really
suprised at how screwed this is. F1GP did it right, IMHO.

5) For me, the "feel" of driving is awesome. The tracks and car responses
seem tweaked (and proper). 2 examples are the last turn at Laguna Seca, and
the first turn at Toronto. Even though I would basicly hit those corners,
it did not "feel" like I was driving a car thru a turn. This "feeling" is
what it should be in ICR2.

So while some people were belly aching about how ICR2 is not much of an
improvement, I disagree. ICR2 is a HUGE improvement. Of course you have
to play the ***out of ICR to be aware of some of it's small problems.
I was so impressed with ICR2, that I took my old ICR 3.5" box & disks
and put it in the garbage.

BTW, way to go Chris!

Thanks for the info. I am more of an openwheel person. So I passed on NASCAR.

What the hell do you mean, "if you bought it in the first place" ? Are you trying
to be some kind of*** or something? OK maybe you were not trying... BTW, my
ICR box was one of the origionals with M Andretti on the cover. I never bought
the indy addon, so I guess I don't care about indy.

Get that box back, now!  That sucker is a collectors item!  I'd keep the
ICR1 anyhow.  If nothing else, it will demonstrate the improvments in
computer software.

Right. Like I'm going to start a museum or something... I don't think so.
I am rather amused at the number of people (well meaning I'm sure) who
are concerned about this. sheesh. I'm sorry I mentioned it. :-)

On a happier note, I am finding that I really like the Detroit GP. I
never thought much of that track. With ICR2 it is cool though :-)

NASCAR has the same limitation, very annoying. I try to save during a
caution flag after everyone has had a chance to pit.

It's not a matter of whether or not you want to start a museum.  The fact is
there are people out there who would love to get their hands on the original
game, and you could financially profit from getting rid of it instead of
trashing it.

Well... Since I bought the game, I figure I get to dispose of it any way I wish.
That *IS* my right. RIGHT? So you think, (and possibly others) that there are
"people" out there that would love to get their greasy hands on my old game?
And you are concerned that I am passing up some profit? Who the heck really
would care?

Your opinion changes nothing. Still my game. I get to dispose of it as I wish.

STUFF DELETED

I agree but I still have mine.  Never know what some idiot like he is will pay
for a box like the one you and I have

One of the most technical tracks that I have driven on and one of the few that
does not require raw hp to win on IMHO

Yes, actually I am looking for the Indianapolis track pack, as I cannot
find it around here ANYWHERE, and I am now told it is discontinued.  I am not
willing to order it directly and pay more than I paid for the entire ICR I
sim.  If anyone has upgraded and would like to offload their Indy pack for
ICR I please let me know.  Hey, if you feel like even making a contribution
to a poor college student, it would be quite nice (Hey, if you are just going
to throw it away)
 Thanks,
  Tom
