3rd party sounds for GPL?

Anyone out there knows of some good sounds for the engines in GPL? The Ferrari
is already awesome though the Lotus, Eagle and Brabham seem of much lower
quality. I drive the Ferrari and it makes it difficult to go to any other car
after you hear that engine :-)
Can anyone let me know if they have (or know where to get) some better engine
sounds?

Thanks and regards,
David Mocnay

Hi there,

I have created a GPL Soundpack that replaces some sounds that came with the
sim, and I got a lot of positive feedback on this so I thought it'd be good
for your files section. The improvements are as follows:

Louder Audience
Softer and different gear shift
More realistic skid sound
More realistic wind sound
New Weslake engine (the Eagle's roar...)
New Repco engine
More realistic sound when hitting the rails
...and a special add-on to the standard >hard_hit< sound...

I put a lot of work in here, and especially the engine sounds were put
through so many filters and effect-processors that I don't even know how on
earth I did that :-)

Downloadable at:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/***er/nixfx2.exe

As you can see from the link this is an EXE file, installation is very easy.

The file is virus-checked, of course...(NORTON)

The Eagle uses Cosworth.wav, doesn't it?

Unfortunaltely, it seems that the full version of GPL only uses
Cosworth, Ferrari, Repco Wavs..The demo and betas also used Weslake...:(

Waiting for somebody to crack this, as I have some good v12 sounds..

If you like the Ferrari sound so much but want to drive other cars you
can always rename the Ferrari sound to that of the car you want to
drive - in ther usual way.

Also meatwalker's sounds, http://www.racesimcentral.net/***er/nixfx2.exe
, are worth using too.

I downloaded and installed your sound pack last night and it killed my
installation of GPL. It would get to the main screen, I could view and
change any of the options (player info, team info, etc), but when I tried to
click on the green go button, it did nothing. It didn't crash or
anything...it was just like the button wasn't there. I reinstalled the game
and everything is back to normal. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks,
Todd Walker

It wouldn't have had anything to do with the patch itself, anyhow.
It only opens then sound.dat file and replaces original WAV files - nothing
more.
Did you have the UNPACK/PACK window open still, after unpacking/packing the
files?

That's my guess. The sound.dat file was "open" and couldn't be accessed
in-game as such.

Same thing happened to me. Copying the original sound file from the cd
fixed it though.

I tried that, but that wasn't what I was after (I kept on thinking that every
car behind me is Ferrari).... I would like "unique" sounds for the other cars
but of the same quality as the Ferrari.... if anyone has any then I'll fiddle
with them and maybe I can match them to the cars.

Regards,
David Mocnay
ps. at the moment I got "some" unique sounds for the Lotus and Eagle and I can
tell (hear) these cars just by the sound from a mile away. Though, the V12 in
particular, does not sound like a V12 :-(

The Lotus and the Eagle use the same wav file for their engine sound.
I'm almost sure this is a bug in GPL...  The Weslake sound isn't used by
any car as both the Eagle and Lotus use the Cosworth sound - seems to me
that the Eagle should be using the Weslake sound.

Can anyone from Papy confirm this as a problem in the sim?

Hi John,  the Weslake Wav file is used by the Coventry...
Following is the list:

Ferrari = Ferrari.wav
Lotus = Cosworth.wav
Murasama = Repco.wav
Brabham = Repco.wav
BRM = Brmh16.wav
Coventry = Weslake.wav
Eagle = Cosworth.wav
Trainers = F2F3.wav

Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Ron
