F1RS:Graphics card recommendations

Current system: P166 (non-MMX), 64M, 8x CD-Rom,

Video card: Diamond Stealth 3D2000, 2M

Ok, I know that F1RS needs a 4M video card to run, but also know that it
isn't meant to be any good under the S3 chipset.

Question is, should I go for a new graphics card, or an accelerator like
the 3DFX?

If I go for an accelerator, will I still need to upgrade the 3D2000 to
4M and will I still have the S3 problems, or will a 3DFX bypass it
completely.

If I go for a new graphics card, which ones can people recommend,
preferably something affordable.

Thanks for any help,

Mark Cohen

If you are talking about F1RS, go for 3Dfx. Either Voodoo or Voodoo2
is fine for F1RS. The game works with 4MB Direct3D cards like Riva128
too, but considerably slower.

3Dfx Voodoo card bypasses it completely. I have a 2MB S3 card and
Voodoo card, and F1RS runs great.

Affordable? Go for either 4MB or 6MB 3Dfx Voodoo add-on card.
Second-hand if you like.

Then go for a Voodoo 1 card. You will only see huge performance
gains with a Voodoo2 and a Pentium 2.

I have a 200MMX, Diamond Stealth 3D 3000 and a Monster
3D. F1RS will run pretty good with 64MB of RAM on your system.

On my P233MMX I saw a big jump in F1RS (esp. at the start, lots of
polygons) when I put in my V2. If you are going to upgrade to a P2
in less than a few months, get a V2.

The 3Dfx bypasses it. The computer detects the 4MB onboard the 3Dfx
card.
Keep your Stealth for Windows work.

Buy a Diamond Monster 3D (4MB), or any of the well-known Voodoo
Graphics cards. Steer clear of the Voodoo Rush which is 2D and 3D.
Don't buy a Voodoo 2 unless you plan on upgrading to a Pentium 2 in
the very near future

Get a Voodoo2 trust me even with your system you will be happy. Yes its
only a little faster than the Voodoo1 but sometimes a little goes a long
way to making a game playable and then if you upgrade in the next 6
months your set with the best supported fastest card there is .....out
now.
