Help me shop - TOCA or Nascar 2 or ...

I need your help, racing sim expert.

I have a 200 Mghz Pentium 32 Meg RAM, Pure 3d Card, joystick. Want a
racing wheel and a great racing game.

I like Soda Off-Road Racing, but it makes me dizzy bouncing around
like that.

Nascar 2 demo gives me the idea the game is outdated. Too much pop-up
background. I have to memorize the track to get better - that's not
fun. Maybe the expansion pack solves this problem ?

TOCA: Touring Car Championship seems the best game, although one can
spin out too easily - or one does, or does not spin out - little
middle ground. It is rewarding to get better at the game, due to more
carefully accelerating, braking, turning, etc.

Thanks in advance.

I think you should buy >TOCA or F1racing simulation.
TOCA is very fun (you can hit other cars ) and quite realistic (unless your
car deforms but never dies).
F1RS is more fluid,  more realistic, (but you should not hit other f1 !!).
I think these two games are the best car sims ever. With agood wheel , both
are great.
I personnaly bought TOCA and I play with f1rs demo.
Make your choice and have fun!

Go with TOCA, much much fun... The problem with N2 is that it's *too*
realistic. The cars handle like ***on road courses. Just like the real
thing.

Nascar 2 puts TOCA  to shame period !! I  drive a stockcar at the glen & a
indycar on the converted Nascar 2 watkins glen track with no trouble.
Nascar2 & ICR2 are the best sims on the market & when Grand Prix Legends
comes out it will put all the rest 6 feet under :)

What *** was complaining about having to memorize the tracks in N2 to get
better?  Do you think the drivers have to learn the tracks?  Of course they
do!!!!  N2 is the best racing sim out there (until GP Legends hits), and
with its flexibility and setups, probably also the most challenging.  Sort
of like the real thing, huh?????

HI...
Another Toca supporter here....I have and love N2 but for shear
adrenaline TOCA is hard to beat....no screwing around with
setups...excellent AI....works great with a $49 Grand Prix 1 wheel.
Most fun I've had with a racer for some time...Not that easy to locate
though.................I found one at an EB....

Don't you feel that your Papyrus evangelism is a bit excessive? Their
sims
were very good in their day (years ago), but quite a few have surpassed
them
since their release. F1RS makes ICR2 look like it's ancient.
I will have to give Papy their due in the multi-player dept. Heads above
the
rest in modem play.
IMO, TOCA is much more fun than N2 period. I've had them both since
their
release and I've spent much more time playing TOCA that I have ever
played
N2. But remember these are just opinions.
You may be right about GPL, but then again...

What ??? Their Sims still are sold in BIG numbers, and as I recall in
november Nascar2 was still in the top10 list of the most sells.  Top10 is a
BIG thing, considering the numbers of games available on the market.  Heck
on what planet are you living to say Papyrus sim are old ?

It's apple and orange. I like Icr2 better, even if it's now around 2?years
old.  Icr2 is still IMHO the best overall SimRacing title.  Btw I only race
"pure SimRacing titles". No arcade for me. TOCA is boring, like all of
them...

So here is the list of what I call presently, the serious racing sims:

Indy500 (still the best AI I ever saw)
Indycar Racing
World Circuit (Microprose)  At the same level as Icr1. Good simulators they
are.
Nascar Racing
Indycar Racing 2
Grand Prix 2 (Microprose) The ONLY non-Papyrus good sim IMHO
Nascar Racing 2
SODA: Off-Road
Cart: Precision Racing (Microsoft) Never surpassed nothing
Formula1: Racing sim (UbiSoft) Can't recall it's a F1 sim. I like Gp2 more.
RAC Rally  (bordeline)

Note 6 out of 11 are from Papyrus. Tell another time they are old and not
good.  Totalise the sells of them, and I will say why we are "pro-papyrus".

Not only that.  Papyrus is the leader in SimRacing IMHO because of the NROS
and HAWAII. It's the premium, the best.   They are at least 2years in front
of everybody.  2YEARS.   It's impossible in any non-Papyrus serious
SimRacing title to racing online with 3cars at the same level as the NROS.

Yeah just opinions. TOCA is an arcade game, not a serious simulator IMHO.  I
did about 60000-70000 laps offline in Nascar2 (7000 online), and it's more
fun IMHO, even 1year and a half after it's release.  See the numbers of
Nascar2 website, compared to TOCA (it's 1000:1, and I'm not exagerating)

Gp-Legends will put the step higher like always.  Nascar3 will do it also.
CART 3 also. And Reno Air Racer will do good It's sure.

Ok, here was another "Is Papyrus really the SimRacing leader ?".

I answer yes, still yes and probably always yes for a numbers of years...

Well, I've been seriously racing since 1990.  It's 8years ago.  A little
company called Papyrus did the first serious racing simulator called Indy500
The Simulator.  I still play after EIGHT years...

Most of us here are pro-papyrus, because all their products were successful
and will continue to be.   Making the game engine a step higher each time.
Better graphics.

Without Papyrus, we wouldn't be writing here presently.

As you said racing game, and *not* racing sim.......
Easy, get TOCA Touring Cars, its great fun, and a real blast.

To make controlling the cars a little easier ensure you do the
following.....

You can change the sensitivity of your controller (joystick or
keybaord) in the controls configuration screen, if you set the
sensitivity to medium or low this helps to make controlling the cars
easier.

You can also make sure you have the controller set-up correctly, and
that it is calibrated correctly.

You can also make sure that you *DO NOT* brake whilst cornering, you
should brake to the correct speed for the corner, then turn in, then
accelerate out of the corner. The cars bouncing around is as Touring
Cars should be, this is the correct behaviour for these types of cars.

Hope the info helps.....
