3DFX N2 Question

3DFX N2 Question

by Devo » Mon, 19 Jan 1998 04:00:00

I just bought a Diamond Monster 3D Accelerator for use primarily with
other games, and I understand that N2 has yet to release a patch for
support of the 3DFX chipset.  My question is whether or not the existence
of the card itself will improve the graphics speed in N2.

I just turned everything in options on, and moved both fps settings to
25.  It seems pretty smooth, but could be much better (compared with Tomb
Raider for instance).  Any comments or assistance would be appreciated.
TIA.

Without the patch the Monster3D isn't being used, and as far as N2 is
concerned it might as well be a paperweight sitting on your desk.

Devon,

Just installing the 3dfx card will have no effect on N2.  When/if the
N2 patch comes out though, it should speed things up a bit.
Personally, having both an I3D100 and a Monster 3D, I'll be interested
in comparing the two.  I already get 30fps everything on with my
I3D100.

The Monster 3D will do nothing for N2 until there is a patch. If there
is a patch. I'll believe it when I see it.

No 3D card will do anything for any game unless it is supported either
directly or through an Direct3D or somesuch.

I'll say it again.  It seems pretty smooth, but could be much better.

From what I've read, that isn't coming from the new card.  Sure seems
smoother to me though.  We'll see real improvement with the (vaporware?)
3DFX patch I'm sure...

If you have _all_ the graphics options set to "on", then it makes no
difference where you have the fps sliders at.  Those sliders are there to
automatically turn on and off graphics options automatically to maintain the
minimum fps you specify with the slider.  This only works if you have the
graphics options set to 'auto'.  To answer your original question, your
Monster3D, or any 3D card for that matter, will do absolutely nothing to
accelerate Nascar2.  The only exception to this _currently_ is if you have a
Rendition 3D card.

3DFX N2 Question

There is a school of thought right now that if you have a Non-Intel
processor, you actually get a decrease in performance when installing a
Voodoo card.  My brother seems to beleive this on his K6-233 with a Pure 3D.
He feels that his system went slower when he installed the card.

Personally, I had all 3 CPU's in my system and never noticed anything but
the opposite.(Cx,amd,i)  However, My system was built with the Pure 3D and I
never removed it to test.
