Guillemot/Ferrari Wheel - Anybody Else Have Problems?

This is a fairly decent wheel with what unfortunately seems to be one
serious/fatal flaw - the F1-style shifter levers are as flimsy as a
butterfly's wing.  Didn't even last 3 laps of the 'Ring in GPL.  Very
disappointing.

Anybody else have this wheel and the same problem?

You have a few options.
Go for realism and use the stick shifter.
Drive in automatic.
Return the wheel for a new one.
Get new paddles from Gmot N.A. (now in stock)  and do the mod on Tweaks &
Reviews.

Similarly disappointed.
Right "Up" paddle lasted 7 days. Left "down" paddle about 5 more. Spoke to
Guillemot netherlands and they had not heard of such problems. The newsgroup
discussions like this which I then referred to could have been initiated by
anyone (the competition). They told me to take the wheel back for a new
one - suspect same will occur. I'll keep going back until they want to *fix*
it.
Rest of the rig seems good. But since I've had the thing only a few weeks,
and it's already failing, there is no way I could be recommend it.

Thanks, got new paddle on the way from Guillemot.  Where do I find the Tweaks
& Reviews to which you refer?

This whole subject is rather bizarre!  For some time now, some people have
been complaining about the paddle, and others have had no problems.  I have
had mine for months now with absolutley no paddle difficulties at all. In
fact, I don't see how they can break as pulling them moves them against a
thick piece of plastic which doesn't allow any excessive movement.  Two
friends of mine also have had no problem.
Are there different types of wheel out there?
Iain

Yes, slightly. Also, some people (like myself, I think) are generally easy
on equipment. Still, they shouln't break even with normal hard use. They do
have a stopper, but the paddle (internally) flexes (bends) before it hits
the stop. Hopefully Guillemot will start making the paddles with larger
***holes and not tightening the screws so much. I know they are listening
to the customers. The first wheels didn't have problems, I think, but people
wanted stiffer paddles. Gmot listened, but when they stiffened them, they
ended up breaking because of the flex. I think their next attempt was to
pack the paddle area with foam. It helped, but didn't cure the problem and
the paddles didn't feel as good either. I believe they are trying, but
sometimes these things just take time to get done.

BTW, my 4 way hat button is bad also.   Left side has no "action", in fact it's
flush against the wheel.  Up, down, right all work fine.  I think I just got a
lemon, it's going back for exchange.
