worries me slightly is.... how much more will the framerates suffer over the
V2 gt mod? My system is a Celeron 850, 64mb gf2 mx 400, 256mb ram. and can
see that its going to be hammered.

Make it a practice to start a race with your mirrors off. That will
help some. Then when traffic thins out you can check out who's hounding
you. Looking at the header, I was digging out my 3dfx help file We'll have
to get them to rename the mod to version 6 or 7!

Coo that's good news Ian. Kinda odd though.... did you *really**** up the
framerate in V2.1?
<g>
> Ian
erm... ahm... a little :)
The full story is that we have made multiple LOD maps and models for
everything; Pulled a few smart ones on the engine here and there, which
really does not shift poly's too well and the end result is much more detail
and much higher framerates. We've also tricked it into applying different
lighting for seperate objects on the car which means we can apply a light
gloss to the paintwork, chrome/metal effects on the wheels and light glare
on the windows etc. Also, each can have a seperate emap applied now. With
TGA's in F1-2002 though we can really go to town here :-)
In short we've optimised just about everything to the nth degree and the
results are worth it in terms of looks and framerate. We now have very
little to do to get the cars into 2002 and looking even better than now. So
the next big push from us is tracks and a 1973 F1 mod. Mugello is very sweet
atm and a few weeks should trim it off. I'm about 60% done on Brno from
scratch and Zolder is also in the works. Sean has the Nordschleife going as
a long-term project also.
For the 1973 mod, we want to have at least half of the contemporary tracks
available and to release others as and when we complete them. With the 2002
engine with it's new physics enhancements (which we asked for and ISI
delivered) this should be a great drive.
Anyway, I'm supposed to be testing V3, catch you later

Just kiddin', while the mods are really great to have add-ons,
I'd really like to see decent online multiplayer functionality
in a modern F1 sim (of which f12001 is the best).
Cheers,
Uwe
