New GPL Sounds Update--THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

by Marc Collin » Fri, 05 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

Patrick's GPL sounds (already fantastic beyond description) are being
tweaked by another talented person named Thomas JS Brown.

He has eliminated the artificial bass boom at the top end of the Lotus
r.p.m. range (which also affected the Eagle at the same rev range)
(Yeah!!!!!!!!!!).  These two cars now sound fantastic!!!!!

Hopefully, he or someone with time (Patrick is getting ready for his new
addition to the family (congratulations!) will tweak the other sounds, too.

The Repco sound (Brabham and Honda) has a tick in the sample, but other wise
is a gigantic improvement over the original.  If we can eliminate the tiny
click/tick, it will be "perfect".

The Ferrari sound needs a bit of work to make it as full and rich as the
others.  It is probably more authentic than the original, but the papy sound
has that Ferrari trademark mythical screaming-wailing down pat, I think.

The Cooper/Coventry sound has been re-worked by Mr. Brown and is
substantially smaller than Patrick's.  I am not sure which sounds better,
but they both have an artificial bass boom like the original Lotus/Eagle
sample had.  Please work the same magic on this one that you did for the
Lotus!!!!!

The BRM sounds (both of them) also have the tick/click in them.  Again,
someone please remove this small flaw and it will be heaven to drive
Alison's new BRM set-ups!

I cannot thank Patrick and Thomas Brown enough--these sounds completely
transform GPL if you have a decent sound system.  They are truly awesome and
are only a tiny bit away from being "perfect".

Do not hesitate to try them.  The Lotus/Eagle is fantastic and the others
are quite useable, despite the tiny glitches.

Marc.

P.S., I got the new sounds from the Fast Lane
(http://www.racesimcentral.net/), which was down as of the moment of this
writing.

Well it is not The Fast Lane which is down... it is an internet backbone
which is down!

Because of a the backbone  you have to use another URL to get at The Fast
Lane:

New GPL Sounds Update--THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

I wish these guys would make an individual sound for each chassis.  I use
the carsounds patch that allows me to have different sounds for each
chassis so that the Lotus and Eagle sound completely different.

Easy!

Just d/l the files. Look in your GPL/sound dir- there are 7 wavs, one
for each manufacturer.
Copy Pat's sounds, and rename them as one of the ones created by the
carsound utility (e.g Lot.wav, eag.wav, mur.wav..)

Works just fine!

Hope it helps,
