RFactor: F1 1979 Sound Update - No Engine Sound!

by BRH » Fri, 08 Sep 2006 11:21:33

After installing the 1979 F1 Mod sound update file
(F11979Demo-soundupdate25.08.06.rar) in RFactor 1.15, the mod no longer
has any engine sounds.  It has the wind sound, the road noise sound and
impact/collision sounds - just no engine sounds.

The other mods/cars seem to have all of their sounds intact and functional.

Anyone have a fix for this?  Is there a way to undo just the sound
update install?

My system runs on WinXP SP2 and has a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard
if that matters.

Thanks!

I've also  experienced the same silent '79 engines. I'm sure the sound
was OK when I first installed this mod, but the last few times I tried
it I just get the other sounds (such as the tires and rattling) - it's
a most spooky effect!

I've not installed a sound update, so I'm not convinced that this is
the cause of your problem.

However, I have installed a great many other track & car mods, and
I guess it's possible one of them is interfering. Wish I knew what it
was...

Do you've by any chance all cars/tracks series or whatever it's called
selected, instead of the 1979 demo mod (player settings)? Try F1 1979
Demo only to see if that solves the problem.

Cheers!

If you don't make backup copies of rFactor (or any other Sim) to fall
back on, this is a good time to start (once you get it running properly
again).  Every couple of times that I add a track or mod, I make a
copy.  At the very least, that'll eliminate the rFactor installation as
being the reason for sound or graphics problems.

That was exactly it, Remco!  Thanks!  All sounds are working now.

BTW -- and this is a bit off-topic:  Is it just me, or does the layout
of Toban Grand Prix (as it loads) look just like an outline of "Dennis
the Menace" in profile?  It's funny the weird things that you notice as
you get old...
