GPL: Most dangerous turns??

by Chris Bloo » Sun, 23 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Yeah, that hairpin at Rouen is terrible.  If i don't brake too
late I will brake too early and seeing as I am going too slowly
will lift off the brakes and still end up going too fast when I
get to the hairpin and hitting those friggin' tyres!!!

I just can't get that right yet!! Strangely I always had
problems with certain sections of Magny-Cours in GP2 and was
never competitive there.  Those French certainly know how to
frustrate us poor little sim racers!

The chicane at Monte Carlo just takes practice in my opinion,
once you work it out it is relatively easy, I find the last
hairpin more diffucult to judge.

Got to agree with you on that one Gordon. To run a long race and get that
corner right everytime is a challenge like no other.

I wonder if the first left hander at the P-Ring could be in the "most
dangerous turns" category?

BTW: the GPLEA has put out a new track for GPL!  I just wish they made a
better track map because I can see it now..  the NASCAR boys getting lost on
it.

GPL: Most dangerous turns??

by pjgt.. » Mon, 24 Apr 2000 04:00:00

The most difficult corners in GPL, in my humble opinion, are:

Spa = Eau-Rouge (Say no more?)

Monza = The second Lesmo (I always wish I had pressed the throttle
harder/earlier!)

Watkins Glen = The last hairpin (Bastard corner!)

The Ring = All of them!

Rouen = The hairpin, I always brake too early, or too late, but *never*
just right!

Silverstone = Abbey, very easy to drift too wide here.

Kyalami = The first corner, very easy to get pile-ups here when on-line?

Actually I find Silverstone the easiest to nail consistently...  It's
a pretty easy circuit.  You just have to find your brake markers.  I
think it's the only circuit where I can consistently run consistent
lap times (in the 90.5-91.5 during a race)

I guess 100+ laps over the fast 3 or 4 days isn't enough practice.  I'm still
holding my breath through the chicane... :-)

Hmmmm......I shouldn't have opened my mouth so quickly:(  I
guess the last time I was at Monaco i managed to get through the
chicane a couple of laps in succesion and figured I had it
mastered.  Just been there again and hit those blasted straw
bales more times than I missed them!

It certainly ain't the easiest!

The Masta Kink at Spa - nothing like hitting a house at 180 mph.

That's a tough question.  I have problems with turn one at Mexico (well,
I have problems at a lot of places, but this one seems to catch me out
quite often.

Masta, if you get it just a little wrong there is no getting it back :-)
Also the Kallenhard section at the Ring and the second half of the lap
at Zandvoort :-)

Stavelot, Mexico turn 1, and any turn in a BRM.

Finally, I thought I was the only one having noticed this slowdown in the
movie. It can't possible be that slow in real racing as the shooting made in
this movie (at least at this specific point). Love to see how well the tracks
are duplicated in GPL though.

I thought it was only weak engines or something.. :) It's a bit
annoying to hear the car going flat out through Malmedy and Masta.

I read that all the cars in the movie were not real f1 cars. That
explains why Masta and the monaco chicane look quit easy in the movie
compared to GPL

Almost every engine sound you hear in the movie was done in post-production.
They have much or less relation with how the car actually is on the picture
(in acceleration, neutral or braking).

The best example of that would be the final race at Monza in the movie.
Sound editing is very poor in terms of realism.

The shooting from the helicopter is impressive though (I think they are from the
"real" races).
