not sure about compaq but i can tell you on my Packard Bell that once i

ever spent on a computer product, just call them if you have any
questions, the tech guys are the best or call compaq, hope this help a

Has anyone had any success installing the Reactor 3d card on a compaq Presario? I have a 4716. One Compaq rep told me
"sure, just plug it in". Another said "no way". These guys really have it all together.  The problem is, the mother
board includes the video interface. I looked inside the computer, and there are no straps to disable the on-board video.
Would appreciate hearing from anyone (good or bad news) that has had tried to install an add-in video card on a Compaq.

Thanks.

..snip

I don't have a compaq, however, on my AT&T globalyst with onboard S3
Trio video, it worked fine. If your system supports "plug n play" and
you put it in a pci slot, it should work. Windows95 will boot into
safe mode and prompt for the reactor disk and the new driver. You may
have to play around and re-select the a:\ drive or reboot and try
again as mine did something strange the first time and didn't want to
find the driver but it did work.

..snip

I agree with this! This is an incredibly money wise upgrade as a
overdrive processor and/or MB upgrade would have costed 3 to 4 times
as much and I'm sure, graphically speaking, the performance received
would not be near what the reactor provides.

Also, The tech support has been outstanding from intergraph. This
isn't one of those companies that leaves you***. They will work
with you and do everything in their power to help you get up and
running with this card!

Let that be a lesson to you. Dont buy a PC from Compaq if you want to
upgrade. Most Compaq PCs I have seen, have very few ISA & PCI slots. Have
mother board graphics, (and not a very good one at that) and are generally
slower. The cases suck also. (Nice keyboards though!)
I think PCW reported recently, that most of them dont even have
external cache either.
