Talk and Race Simultaneously

For all you guys and girls out there who would love to modem race and
talk to your opponent at the same time (but are like me and cannot
afford a Digital Simultaneous Voice & Data modem), the answer is here -

The guys at echospeech (http://www.racesimcentral.net/) have developed a
piece of software that allows simultaneous transfer of voice and data.
All you need is a 14,400 modem, a Pentium and a 16 bit soundcard.

Sounds great?? What's the catch?

The software (5 minute time limited demo available from their site) is
at present only optimised for Doom, Duke 3D etc. They are keen to hear
from gamers to guide them as to what game to make the software suitable
for next.

I have e-mailed them asking for them to look at Nascar, Indycar 2 and
Grand Prix 2 (if and when it is released). If enough people e-mail them,
we might have the ultimate in modem connections - voice and data.

A friend and I have been modem racing for almost a year now with ICR and then
NASCAR using 2 lines, i.e. 1 for voice and the other for modem. We both have
telephone operators headsets, and the experience is phenomenal. It takes
getting used to, though, cause at first the voice is distracting. Once you get
used to it it's great. I wouldn't have it any other way!

You are lucky. Not only can I not afford a second line, I can't afford
the phone bills for the first line (my main opponent is not a local call away
and at 10-40c per minute even 1 line gets expensive).  :)
