*Finally* I got my WSC....

by mark jeangerar » Tue, 22 Jan 2002 03:10:42

I'm using 98SE. Here are my reasons, bearing in mind that I am NOT a
computer whiz:

1. Everyone has drivers for 98.

2. I can't think of one thing that my OS doesn't do that I wish it would do.

3. I DLed Media Player7 and it would not allow me to save or even review
media files in any other manner than streaming, which don't work at 56k. I
fear that any new MS software may act accordingly.

4. I won't use any software that wants me to 'check in' periodically with
the manufacturer or forfeit my right to use it.

So far, the Win98SE thing is working out pretty well.

Yea well, I guess it helps that you do some ass slapping with the GPL boys
on VROC.

"Check in"?  What if you lost your internet connection?  XP would be worthless,
then?

Mark, thanks for all your help on this, much appreciated.

It's a shame we're stuck with 640x480 though :(

Oh yeah, I'm generally loved on VROC. They can't wait until I show up. Got presents from
everyone on Christmas.

Mark, I have the exact same problem with media player.

Here's a few tips that may help you, at least with Windows media player ;)

1: Check your temp internet folder for mpegs etc. then copy them to a safe
place
or use the original media player which comes with win 98, it should still be
in the windows folder, mplayer.exe. If you're lucky, mplayer2.exe may still
be on the PC.

2: Search for a program called "asfrecorder" to be able to save streaming
video. You can download and save a Broad Band stream and watch it later.
(only works with windows media files I think)

Personally, I like the way Dave even pisses off the guys

I like your inability to follow the sequence of events.

I follow it all.  What don't you understand?  Maybe "pisses
off" is overstating it, but I read Mark's reply to you as
sarcastic.

He was sarcastic towards me with his initial AND follow up reply. That's why
I took a shot at him. Wrong of me? I'm glad you liked it though.

See that's why everyone HATED CPR.  Because at the time, the fixes just
weren't there.  It absolutely sucked.  You had to be a hex editor to get any
decent driving.  And EVEN with all the hacks and fixes you mentioned below,
does any of that help the hapless AI???

Worked fine for me. AI wasn't great but otherwise never had any problems.
Even during beta testing.

What's so odd about recommending good setups and the installation of a patch
anyway?
