Gloria Slap if I remember correctly.
I still hold a grudge against Billy Bumper btw, every single race he would
crash me out. Never has a driver been better named ;-)
Cheers,

Heh, I remember watching a friend play Vette on his 12 MHz 286
and drooling over the game's EGA graphics. Playing it on my own
computer wasn't nearly as nice as I only had an 8MHz 8086 with MCGA
graphics (a PS/2 model 30 actually). The best part of the game was
being able to give excuses to the cops after getting pulled over!
With regard to the original post, the earliest racing game I
remember having a fully-functional dashboard AND a first-person
perspective was Test Drive 1 on my C64, though I'm pretty sure Revs
preceded it. Incidentally, LeMans (1982) had one of the first
speedometers I can remember while The Great American Cross-Country
Road Race (one of my favorites from 1985) had a speedo, tach,
odometer, fuel gauge AND radar detector. However, it was played from
a behind-the-car perspective. Ah, sweet memories. Time to bring my
C64 out of a dark closet and bring myself back to reality.
It should be noted, though, that Night Driver was not played
from an interior perspective (unless that cross-like object at the
bottom of the screen is some sort of hood ornament). As far as I can
remember, NO racing for the 2600 was played from behind the dash
(unless you consider Battlezone a "race against the aliens" game...).

How true! I can't tell how many times I nearly lost my C64 after I was whacked
by him or Dynamic Dan. I didn't have the respect for hardware I have now, so
the keyboard usually took a bashing......:)

Keyboards are cheap, so I still beat them up when things go badly!
By the way, has anyone managed to get Revs working on a C64 emulator? I
am using CCS, and it can load Revs, but I can only turn right. No
acceleration, brakes or left. It doesn't matter if I use joystick or
keyboard. Revs+ doesn't work at all.

I still remember playing Grand Prix Circuit all night trying to get
53's in Monaco in the Ferrari. And then jumping in the "superior"
McLaren to see if I could top it.
