According to the CART info I got from www.sierra.com

CART Racing = Indycar Racing 2 = same game

Virtually identical.  The Intergraph Reactor ICR2 disk reports
"version 1.0.2 -RN1 build #58", the Sierra CART disk reports
"version 1.0.2 -RN1 build #61e".  That may be accounted for by the
changed CART graphics and opening audio.  I don't know if there are
any other internal changes.  (The Sierra disk also includes unenhanced
DOS and Win95 versions of the game.)

The Rendition "helmet bug" is still there.

The Paintkit is version 1.00 and has to be patched to 1.02 (sidepod
seam and rear cowl spine bugs).

The new Sierra release includes the full DOS/Win95/Mac manual
(although no Mac version is on the disk), something you didn't get
with the Intergraph bundle.

The best reason to buy is the 200 page handbook by Steve Smith.
Lots of good stuff in there!

And the box carries a $10 rebate, good through 2/28/98.

For me, I have DOS ICR2 and the Intergraph Reactor bundle, but it
was worth purchasing ($25 at CompUSA though Dec. 6, minus the $10
rebate) for the handbook alone.  YMMV.

Before you send me UCE, I know what you're thinking...  Did he complain
to five or six postmasters last month?  Now, you must ask yourself one
question: "Do I feel lucky?"  Well, do you, punk?

Hi Jeff,

Lack of bug fixes were expected, but the release of CART
Racing is no less a half-baked, last-ditched effort to a) avoid legal
hassles from the Indy-license fiasco; b) keep gamers squaking
until GPL's release; c) get another product on the shelves for
the Christmas season.

This is especially obvious when you consider the following (these
are just the ones off the top of my head):

1) No updates to the included paintkit (ie: the currently available
   paintkit patches).

2) Steve's name is not Steven Smith, but Stephan Smith; a name
he hasn't used for over 35-years (pen name is Steve Smith).

3) References in the manual to IndyCar changed to CART, in
itself not too bad, except instances such as "...CART Racing II
was released..." - Why not simply say ICR2?  Sheesh!  The other
references just made for bad grammer (like I'm an expert<g>).

4) Missing chapters from the book (chap-1 comes to mind)...Papy
(or Sierra, for that matter) didn't even allow for rewrites so's to
check for accuracy in the info.

5) No Mac version - This I don't have a clue about, and there
certainly may be some legitimate reason...?

6) Some of the screenshots from the game (in the CR manual) look
as though they were XEROX'd, and then simply glued in place.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore the stuff that comes out of
Papy's toybox...It's when they do boneheaded moves like this that
get my goat.

Worth the purchase, but just barely.  Steve's guide is the only
saving grace to CR...It's informative, entertaining, and will help
many increase their lap times for better gameplay.  Too bad they
didn't care about how this made Papyrus/Sierra/Steve look when
they decided to ship it.

Cheers!

Marc

<Snip>

From what I've seen from Sierra in the last few years, they seem to
care little of what anyone thinks of them. CART Racing (ICR2) is typical
of there current tendancy to milk a product to the point of being
ridiculous. I was once a fan of their FPS Football games, but Football
98 is very little more than FB93 v1.xx. To see a little of this for
yourself go take a quick look in "The Stadium" (The message board for
Sierra football and baseball games). Not a lot of happy souls in their -
and understandably so!
Then I could go on about the non 3d support in this latest version
of ICR2, but I really don't care anymore. Sorry to be a pain, but Sierra
has driven me to this over the last 12 months. I would not be at all
suprised to see a lot of the companys/programming teams that comprise
Sierra taking a walk in the not to distant future. Sierra seem to be
money orientated to the point of self destruction of late.

There is 3D support in CART Racing. Native Rendition, not 3dFX though
which is what many people wanted.

Cheers!
