You can't run online with a No-CD patch installed.
Until Nascar Racing 2002, my way around this was to use DTools to create a
RAW ISO image of the CD and save it on my server. Then, I would use a very
cool utility called Daemon Tools to mount the ISO image in a Virtual CD-ROM
drive.
This allowed me to protect my original CD, and not have to insert it every
time.
Since the proper CD is 'inserted', and the standard executable is run, there
is no problem running online.
However, since the release of Nascar Racing 2002, I have been unable to get
it working properly. It will start to work correctly, but the system will
eventually lock up every time.
Anyone else got NR2002 to work correctly and reliably with Daemon Tools ?
-Larry
The only thing I did differently was that I used CloneCD to make the image..

Here's the link if interested, then click on Shareware version of CD space

Thanks for the info. It is possible that DDump isn't handling the ISO
correctly.
I will try to create a new ISO with CloneCD, and see if it works.
Thanks!

The cool thing about DaemonTools is that it emulates the necessary
copy-protection software necessary to get protected games to work as an ISO.
Does CDSpace do the same ?

You know, I was just thinking. This is about the time I was experimenting
with the new (at the time, 5W) BIOS for my ABIT KG7 main board. This, and
all BIOS's after it (oddly) have a solid reputation for causing system
hard-lockups, especially in 3D ***.
It's entirely possible that I confused that symptom with DaemonTools and my
ISO.
I solved my KG7 problem by going back to the 5e BIOS, which is absolutely
rock solid. There have been some intricate BIOS CPU setting alterations
posted to correct the lockups in post-5e BIOS's for the KG7, but 5e works
great, and I'll just wait for ABIT to finally get around to fixing this well
known, long-standing bug in their BIOS.
Thanks :)
