In your dreams it was.

For NASCAR (like highway cruising), not modern F1. Too difficult to find 21
other drivers who can race clean and fast in a modern F1 sim. Waste of time.

And you call the diehard GPL community elitist...

If given the opportunity to race a modern F1 sim against 20 people, I
could gather clean fast and furious players for that in no time.

Well Ubisoft found it already too difficult to find 21 other AI who can race
clean and fast in a modern F1 sim.  Waste of time.

It has nothing to do with being elitist. There's just so little room for
error in modern F1.  All 22 guys would have to TIGHTLY hold the driving line
around a 2 mile circuit with 15 completely different turns. They'd all have
to brake at the same meter marker. They'd have to find a way to pass in
extremely tight spaces while accelerating at tremendous speeds or braking in
extremely short distances. In other words, they'd have to drive like real
life F1 drivers or it just won't work. It's nothing like NASCAR or even GPL
type driving. I don't see it happening in pick up races (which is what we
were talking about) at all, and not too often even in league races with
talented drivers.

One question Ed - why would a min LPI be more effective than the current
ranking system? After all, crash drivers won't get higher rankings either,
won't they?

at present, I beleive there is a hole in the ranking system that allows
the cheaters to prosper.  Papyrus has responded occaisionally acknowledging
these problems and hopefully will have them fixed for the next patch.  If
they do roll back the rankings, it will most likely happen when the next
patch is released...and we will be greeted by a chorus of complaints by all
those who have spent their many online hours building up their rankings.

Well, that's the problem. I've done 4-10 races on papy and there is
always some fool around. I have no idea how they get the ranking, but
somehow they do.

With a lpi limit of say 20 you are sure that the drivers attending
does not wreck people on purpose, but still those (or say all of us)
who makes a mistake from time to time but have the right attitude will
be able to race.

Hi Dave, Olav,

personally I think another reset would be pretty awkward. I mean, what are
we all spending our time for if they just reset the rankings whenever they
feel like it? I don't think it's a good policy to punish many just to clean
out a few suspected black sheep.

Also, the vast majority of races I had on WON (mainly RC) were good, and I
was in general surprised by how considerate and fair the other guys drove.

I can understand the frustration when you get crashed out, but from my
personal POV, things aren't going bad at all on WON. IMO, if there's really
a cheat that can be exploited, those who are cheaters _and_ talented enough
to actually find out about the cheat _and_ determined to crash others out
(as not all cheaters are crashers) don't seem to be many. I have yet to see
one, as especially races with a minimum ranking requirement of 1 have so far
always been flawless for me.
