NASCAR 2003 worth it for TA mod?

by Ped Xin » Mon, 01 Dec 2003 06:55:23

Hey ya'll, <-- I guess I felt I had to throw that in since NASCAR is in the
subject ;-)

Do you think it's worth it to buy NASCAR Racing 2003 just for the Trans Am
mod?  To be honest, I have no interest in running the Cup cars on ovals, so
it would only be for TransAm on road courses if I got it.

I am a big GPLer, but I am starting to get burnt out I think.  What's it
like to drive those TransAms?  How does it compare to say, Live For Speed?
(LFS is the last non-openwheel sim I've done any laps in)..

Thanks.

Without a question

They are a little too easy to drive if you ask me, but then again I've
always enjoyed having a car that didn't "stick" almost no matter what
you did to it, with the increased grip and less HP and torque.....

But it's still good fun, and then we get to the "mods" :-)

I am also a longtime GPLer who prefers road courses and rarely run a Cup car
around an oval.  I run the TA mod and the just released TPTCC mod almost
exclusively.  The answer to whether its worth it is YES.

The TPTCC mod is great! I loved what Papy did with NR2003 but my heart is in
road racing. I'm really looking forward to the TA car release from PWF.

I wonder if an open wheel mod is possible at some point? I'd love to see a
CART add-on with a Paul Tracy trash-talk sound option. :-)

On the other hand, I can make ANY car look like it's hard to drive.

I recently installed N2003 in C:\Games\Trans Am, deleted all of the
ovals, deleted all of the nascar series, and removed all references to
NASCAR from the menus.

It kicks the living hell out of any other sim.  Even as a NASCAR sim
it was still the best thing out there, but nothing compares to the PTA
physics.

I'd compare it to LFS, but that would be like comparing GPL to Pole
Position.

If you're finding it easy, you're going too slow. =)

(then again, I'm going too slow and still don't find it easy)

From what I've heard through the grapevine, while you could probably
approximate the physics by creating a new .exe file (thus making the
new mod incompatible with Sierra's online service), the sim has
problems with open***pits.  At least that's what I've heard.

Maybe you should create a "transform your nascar 2003 install package"

I was thinking about it but didn't know if there would be a demand for
it.  Perhaps I'll do that.

Thx for the none vote of confidence :-)

I basically use the PWF "expert" setup for WG as by base setup for the
few tracks I've driven and it works very well for me

i'm sure GPL guys will love the mod and more if they don't see any nascar
