RAC Rally Championship Standard Joystick Question

by Marc Collin » Thu, 10 Apr 1997 04:00:00

Does anyone else using RAC Rally Championship with a standard joystick,
using the set-up that allows for acceleration by pushing the joystick up
and braking by pulling the joystick down (steering being left and right of
course), have almost no variability in the acceleration and braking?

The steering works perfectly, the calibration shows that it is working
perfectly, but I get all of the acceleration and braking occurring in the
first 10 degrees of joystick movement away from the centre position.
Bottom-line: You can only slam on the brakes or gas with almost no ability
for a refined action, particularly since you are also using the joystick to
steer.

I have a standard Gravis analogue joystick that works as it is intended to
under NFS, GP2, etc.  If you are not sure whether you are experiencing this
problem there is an easy way to test it: put the car in neutral and then
check how for forward you have to move the joystick before you red-line the
engine.

I would really appreciate a few responses as to others' experiences so that
I can try to pin-down whether there is something wrong with my set-up
(unlikely) or if this "flaw" is programmed into the game (either
consistently or just for certain controllers).

Thanks.

Please feel free to e-mail me directly if you please.
