As mentioned in other posts, it didn't for me with Audigy and XP.

I really wish someone would sort this out.

Make sure you have the latest SB drivers, the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard, and you
are running th latest patch for NR2002.  If that fails, try turning down the hardware acceleration
on the sound a nothc at a time until it goes away.

What Biz said plus reduce the number of sounds heard in N2k2.  You
shouldn't have to drop too many, try lowereing it just a couple and see if
that helps.

(reducing the hardware acceleration of your SBlive is important too.l)

Also make sure that the sound is not turned up all the way in Windows
settings.  Turn it back to half or less and use the volume on your speakers
to up the difference.

All this, plus check your speaker connections, etc.

Does it happen in other games or just NR2002?  I seem to remember it
having something to do with the VIDEO drivers used, believe it or not,
so make sure these are up to date as well.

Even IF you don't race online,  I would still check out the 2nd patch.
There was a bug introduced to the ai grip levels with the first patch.
This alone justifies using the 2nd patch.  Good luck.
