Sure thing. :)

One guy hosts the event, and the other guy joins the event at the first
guy's IP address.

That's what I thought but I can't get it to work.  This is what I know..

1. One player initializes a race as the host and waits for other players to
connect.

2. Each additional player types in the hosting player's IP address and
clicks 'start' to join the hosted game.

However, when we do this it says, "Timed out opening communications
channel," and it doesn't matter who is hosting the game.  Do you have any
idea why?  Or do you know of a website I could read for troubleshooting?

Thanks Paul, I very much appreciate your feedback.

Is the guy hosting behind a router or firewall?  If so, then that person has
to make sure that:

(1) he does that "find IP address a different way" kludge to make sure the
game is correctly identifying the correct IP address,

-and-

(2) that the proper game ports are forwarded (you can find this in the readme
file) through his router/firewall.

It may also be necessary for the people trying to connect to make sure the
proper game ports are forwarded through their routers/firewalls as well.

If you're getting a connection timed out error, it is almost certainly a
firewall issue.

The only other thing I can think of is to make sure the guy hosting is
correctly binding the game to the correct device (in this case a network
card), and not the modem.  I seem to recall you could bind the multiplayer
game to different devices (so someone could call your computer for example
and play).

hth,
jeff

That did it! Thanks Jeff.  Btw, it helps when the host pauses on the
options screen (the screen just before it goes to the track) to wait
on others instead of going to the track and expecting others to join.
good grief, i can be so dumb.. :\
