Then use DaemonTools to mount the CD in a Virtual CD-ROM drive.
I have close to 60 CD's archived this way and have not found a single Game
or other CD that would not work.
This is astonishing, free software.
Both work fine under Windows XP.

DaemonTools works perfectly, is free, and does something NO other Virtual
CD-ROM Drive software does...
It emulates the necessary SecuRom, SafeDisc or LaserLok Copy-Protection so
you can run the CD Images Perfectly. Every time.
Oh, I forgot to mention one thing. It also works fine with Images stored on
your Network Server, if you should happen to have one.
I have a 60+ CD JukeBox for the price of a 40GB hard drive :)
DaemonTools allows up to 4 virtual CD-ROM Drives at one time.
My original CD's have never been safer :)

I even got GP3 to work, which has some _really_ *** sector-defects
embedded :)
It is possible that the developer is doing a "Daemon-Check", which is truly
dirty, under-handed pool IMHO if that 's the case.. Hell, we're just trying
to use our stuff as provided for under the Fair Use Doctrine...
It's also possible that the game doesn't like CD-ROM Drive Letters that
aren't the _lowest_ lettered drives. I remember Test Drive 5 has this
problem.
One thing I can tell you will NOT run right with DaemonTools activated is
any PowerQuest product Windows EXE (specifically, DriveImage 5 or
PartitionMagic 7). I believe the drive scan it does on startup is what
snags it. Simply right-clicking on the DT Icon and Exiting is enough to
take care of the problem though.
The above PowerQuest issue is the only one I've ever had.

Is Daemon Tools 'live' all the time? I thought it was just something you
started when you NEEDED it...

It creates a virtual CD-ROM Drive, letter and all.
Since I always have an image loaded anyway, it's fine by me that it's there
all the time.

Well, I have Daemon 2.88 and it's a few weeks old :) 247 is quite old, I think.
Hold on... I'll go check the latest version... Good a time as any...
Ok, I'm back...
11/09/2001 - DAEMON Tools 2.88
Still the same.
