New Setups from Eagle Woman

by Alison Hin » Mon, 08 Jul 2002 10:31:41

I've posted a new collection of setups at my Web site.  Go to:

Eagle Woman's Racing Sims

Once there, click on Help, then Car Setup on the navigation menu on the
left.  You'll find a link to the new Gen 2 Setups page in the right-hand
column of the Car Setup page.

            ***

This is my first new release of setups in over two years.

Using what I've learned from developing my real-world Cobra for the race
tracks of northeastern US and Canada, I've developed a new generation of
setups for the cars in GPL.

I feel these setups are the most realistic and enjoyable setups I've
ever driven for GPL - and they are faster than my old setups, too!

You can download the new Gen 2 setups from my site and also read more
about why I think they are better than my old setups - and why I like
them better than pretty much any other GPL setups I've tried.

Enjoy!

Alison

Alison,

Thanks for more great work! Can't wait to try out the new setups. I can use
every second I can get. The setups sounds like they do a better job of
adapting to the GPL physics model. Interesting information in the sidebar
about the GPL tire model. Thanks for all the detail on adapting setups to
other tracks, as well.

Thank you!  I have to say, I've been mostly using your setups for the past
year in GPL, after I stopped caring for hotlapping and started enjoying
driving the car for the fun of it.  I've had a far better experience.

Mont-Tremblant?

New Setups from Eagle Woman

Thanks for your comments, guys!

We've run the Cobra at both Mont Tremblant and Mosport.  Details on my
Cobra site.

BTW, I screwed up the URL to my site in my original post.  Go here:

  http://eaglewoman.maximumspeed.com

The setups are on the Gen 2 setup page, available from Help/Setups or
from the News page.

I still get lots of positive feedback about the setups I've posted in
the past.  It appears that there are still many people who are using
them.  I'm glad they've proven to be so useful and enjoyable.

I'm really looking forward to feedback from everyone who tries my new
setups!

Alison,

I just tried your Ferrari setup at Mexico and ran some laps a couple
seconds faster than I ever have before.  You can just poiint the car
around the esses.  Took a while to get used to the responsiveness but
so far, it is great.  Wish I had half your insight into things.

thanks again,

Jeff

definitely not a linux problem. galeon loaded the page fine a
minute ago. Connection refused means that the web server was
down for a bit, just try again.

Wow!

Finally got around to checking out the new setups, altho not
thoroughly yet.  While I tend to prefer the Eagle, I took the chassis
settings for the new Ferrari setups and melded them with my normal
gearboxes.

I've never enjoyed driving the Ferrari at all.  I've always found that
while the car was relatively easy to caress through 4-wheel drifts, it
was incredibly underpowered and didn't seem to stick to the track as
well as the Eagle, using the default GRE recommended baseline setups.

So far, just running some tests at the ring and lime rock, I am highly
highly impressed.  After just 3 laps at Lime Rock, I was doing an
ultra-cool looking sideways slide through the 2nd to last turn that I
would have never dared to have tried before, nevertheless
confidentally pulled off with any consistency.  Not the fastest way
around, but man, it's so easy to put your foot into it when you know
that the car is not only willing to turn when and where you want it
to, but will gracefully, quickly, and comfortably recover when you've
gone over the line.

Seriously, I'm impressed here.  My laptimes aren't much to shout about
yet, but I feel that's largely due to the sheer fun I'm having pushing
it too hard into every corner, bringing the rear end around so that
I'm literally sideways, then snapping it back to point towards my exit
marker and gunning it as hard as I can, managing to hammer the redline
in 5th despite my dodgy cornering technique simply because I can get
on the gas early with the confidence of knowing the car will stick.
The grip simply flows like honey, and the line marking the edge of
control is so much easier to feel, even without force feedback.

Very nice.  I'm looking forward to trying out the Eagle chassis as
well and I'm sure I'll finally start knocking on the door of a
negative GPL rank without having to resort to mindless hotlapping.
