New Online Racing Connection from Eagle Woman and The APEX!

Many people have asked where to find other people with whom they can
race in Grand Prix Legends on the Internet.  Until now, would-be online
GPL racers have been connecting through email, ICQ, IRC, and Kali.

While this has led to some great racing, it often can be hard to figure
out where the action is.  Also, would-be hosts must notify potential
clients of their IP addresses, which then must be written down and typed
into GPL's multiplayer screen.

However, soon there will be a single central facility for finding other
GPL online racers and joining them in Internet-based races.  This
facility will automate the exchange of IP addresses and launching GPL.

This facility is called the Virtual Racers' Online Connection, or VROC
(pronounced VEE-rock) for short.

VROC is a Web site which will allow you to view a list of GPL races
being hosted, and to join one of those races or to host a race yourself.
VROC is somewhat similar in functionality to services like TEN and The
Zone, but is Web-based and devoted entirely to GPL.

VROC is a co-operative development effort between me (Eagle Woman) and
John O'Keefe of The APEX, and is currently under development.  We hope
to begin testing within the next few days, and will go public with the
site as soon as we feel it's ready.

Keep an eye on Eagle Woman's Grand Prix Legends and The APEX for future
announcements about this exciting project:

Please watch these sites for news about VROC.  We appreciate email, but
keep in mind that answering requests for status of the development
process will slow down the development of the site and delay its
release.

See you at the track - soon!

Fantastic!!!

I have been on the IRC at #GPL every night for the last week looking for
people.  While there haven't been too many people showing up, but I have
been able to do some extensive testing on the TCP/IP racing with some of
people, and this is what I have found:

1. READ ALISON'S ONLINE FAQ, and actually DO WHAT IT SAYS.
I have tried using the defaut internet connect setting ( wish
compression and error correction) and tried the correct settings and it
makes a BIG difference. There are many many more cases of warp and screen
flash with wrong settings.

2. If you don't have the core.ini file in your GPL directory and the host
does, I found that I was kicked out because of "Client / Server Incompatible
Bandwith Setting".

I raced with 8 other guys Friday night and it was AMAZING.  The host had a
Cable Modem and the connection was beautiful.  ( I was even on a lowly 28.8
!)

I also raced last night with a guy that had 56.6 and we were able to have 3
cars on the track for a while, but it was a bit more jumpy.

I can't wait for a dedicated GPL meeting spot, it is going to be so
wonderful.  I have a feeling that the online GPL racing will be MUCH more
popular that Papyrus expected.  I hope this is finally a standard feature in
all of their games.

The Virtual Racers' Online Connection, a new facility designed to enable
Grand Prix Legends racers to locate one another for hosting and joining
Inernet-based Grand Prix Legends races, has entered alpha testing.

Basic functionality has been confirmed, and additional functionality is
under development.  A short beta test period is planned, and if all goes
well, VROC will be made available to the public very soon.

Keep an eye on Eagle Woman's Grand Prix Legends and The APEX for future
announcements about this exciting project:

Please watch these sites for news about VROC.  We appreciate email, but
