N2 - Can't Finish Race

by Barry » Sat, 01 Feb 1997 04:00:00

I'm running 100% length, 99% opponent strength, and using setups from E.
Busch'spage (great setups).  But somewhere around the halfway point, I
always get the "Looks like something turned loose in the motor" message as
I blow.  For example, I've run Rockingham 5 times in a row, and changed my
4th gear ratio to ensure that none of the warning lights ever come on at
top speed - I can still run in the top 5-10 easy.  But. in all 5 races,
I've got the dreaded message between 150 - 250 laps.  I know there is a
random breakdown feature, but 5 in a row doesn't sound like random.  Any
advice????  I'm trying to run a full season.  Thanks.

N2 - Can't Finish Race

I just finished running the first Bristol race in my Championship
Season.  The only time the motor's gone sour on me was during the
previous race at Darlington.  I had a solid 2nd place and the motor
let go on turn 4 of the LAST LAP.  Other than this I haven't
experienced any excessive breakdowns.

If you in fact have set 4th gear so the oil light doesn't light up at
all, then I believe you are doing all you can do to fix the problem.
I in fact have 4th gear set at most of the tracks so the oil light
flickers that the end of each straightaway.  During a long race the
light comes on sooner and remains on for a longer period of time, but
the engine hasn't complained as of yet.

Perhaps the routine that determines when you get a random breakdown is
performed BEFORE the race is begun.  If you run Rockingham 5 times
during a championship season, you must be exiting the race before the
finish when a breakdown occurs.  If the fact that you will have a
breakdown has already been determined, then you may just be forced to
finish the race (or not in the case of the breakdown) and go on to the
next one.
