GPL: how do you get some service around here ?

by * Leon » Sat, 29 May 1999 04:00:00

Hi

Now that I got my joystick deadzone settled,
I am able to run laps after laps without the reset button
:)

so a new problem cropped up
I am now running low on fuel which somehow
shows itself by reducing power to the car ( ? )

anyway, I pit to get some fuel
parked just before my name
and wait
and wait and wait....................

what do I need to do to get some service ?
and how do I know if my wheels got changed ?

do I need to tell them " coming in for pitstop " ?

You don't get service or wheels changed in the pits in GPL. You have to take
enough fuel for the whole race.

If you use SHIFT-R, you get the car repaired, new tires and fuel.

There are no such thing as pitstops in GPL,. You need to hit ESC to return
to the pitscreen. The only time you use the pits in the race is when you get
a stop and go penalty. I suppose stuttering when you begin to run out of
fuel is when the fuel pump is starting to suck air.

There's this thing sitting around on your desk called a manual.  Have a
look.  I guarantee it'll take less time to find your answers there than it
will to wait for a newgroup response.

All this is not meant to be a flame or a snide answer.

When you're stopped, you need to whistle. Default key is Alt-W...

Always get sufficient fuel in the car to complete a race. There are no
facilities as such in the pits. if you have insufficient fuel in the car to
complete a race or crash out, you can hit shift+R to restore the car to
driveable. This has it's limitations though. You will be back to full fuel
load (The original load when the race started) and be on cold tyres. Not a
good recipe near the end of a race. Note also that pro races and above will
not allow you to do this.

In the 60's cars did not generally refuel. They had sufficient  on board for
the race duration.
It has only been in the last few years that refuelling has been
re-introduced into F1. It is a sad fact of life nowadays that GP's are now
won and lost in the pit lane. Previous to this, refuelling was banned in the
early 80's on grounds of safety. Hmmm..... Cut to Eddie Ervine and Jos
Verstappen........

Does this also means that in the real
races, they did do refuel ?

When did they actually start doing the refuel
thing in F1 ?
As far as I could remember, F1 races have refueling.

GPL: how do you get some service around here ?

It used to happen a lot in the 1950's but the practice gradually died
out. Then Brabham started doing mid-race refuelling during the 1982
season. By 1983 all the teams were doing it but it was banned for 1984
on safety grounds.
It was re-introduced for 1994 and beyond.

Yeah...find the fuel pressure gauge (does anyone still have the URL of that
page with the dashboard layouts?) and watch it as your fuel runs out...with
about 2 laps (at a average track, not Spa or The Ring) of fuel left, it will
start dropping from normal (since I run the Brabham, 79 PSI) but will not
leave any other signs until about 3-5 PSI, when it FINALLY starts
sputtering.  You then have about a minute or so worth of fuel left, if even
that...hey, at least your car won't catch fire (if it does, for about a
second!) :D
