OT: Two Towers petition

I recently came across a petition to rename the upcomming moving The Lord
of the Rings: The Two Towers to something less insensitive.   When I read
the petiion, the author made it sound like the producers etc had
deliberately changed the name to garner publicity from the tragedy of the
9/11 destruction of the World Trade Towers.  That notion is both false and
absurd.
While I am sympathetic to the pain and suffering resulting from 9/11, his
basic premise was written with such a lack of facts that it appears
malicious.
He, the petition writer, is either acting through ignorance or attempting to
mislead people from all over the world.
I wrote him a fairly long email chiding him for distorting the motives and
history of the books and films.  Does the fact I am challenging the petition
make me insensitive?  Am I missing something?

Nope, you are not missing anything. That was the original name of the book,
not tied in with the twin towers at all ...

Hell No!  This is just another example of whets really wrong with this
Country. This PC ***is such a joke. If "you" don't like something, make
the choice that's right for "you" and move on. Something as pointless as a
movie title or what camera view you use in your racing sim ( had to do it
lol ) just doesn't matter when you look at the big picture of life.

As an American I think this petition is a good thing... in fact I am going
to start my own petition. Here in the states we use the phone number 911 to
alert the local police and emergency workers to a tragic event, car
accidents, robberies, a cat in a tree. Since the events of 911, I have not
been able to bring myself to call that number, and have been robbed six
times, and my have lost one cat. So....  I am starting a petition to change
the phone number 911 to 912.
Additionally I am starting another petition to remove the ninth and eleventh
floors from all buildings, as again I cannot stand to see these numbers used
so closely together... In fact...all calendars should be changed to remove
the 9th and 11th day, especially if they fall in the same week... Porsche
should recall all 911's and rename them to 912 or 910's it doesn't matter to
me as I am not as willing to upset Germans as we all know how bad that could
go... Clocks should be changed so that the combination of 9 and 11.....

Of course this post is about as serious as one should take these assine
petitions.

As a New Yorker I appreciate the thought, but it is a bit over the top. We
should do more to remember the day, and not try and stick our heads in the
sand and erase all mentions of it, no matter how hard some my try to make a
connection that just isn't there... Ignoring bad situations is what caused
these attacks to happen in the first place.

Thank You.

I hope I don't come off as being overly callous either Dave but after
watching a flag draped peice of the WTC being hauled away yesterday (by many
many news choppers) I came to the conclusion NY is milking this for all it's
worth.  I mean really, it's a dam peice of bldg not a human being.  Surely
not worth the coverage it recieved.

Well I wouldn't blame NY for the coverage that's more of a media thing. IMO
the coverage was a god thing only because its pretty sad how many people
have already "forgotten" about it already. All I hear now is ***like "it
takes to long at the airports now" kinda shit and it really pisses me off.
Maybe, just maybe that flag draped piece of a building might just serve as a
refresher to some people as to the type of scum bags we are dealing with.

Just what does that have to do with Bush?????? He is a very good President
and does agree with bt's comments. I am soo much happier with him in office
than I have been with the Presidency since 1992.

That petition pretty much started as a joke, and it still is.

Online petitions are worthless at 99.99% anyway <G>

And we already watched a few hundred ceremonies live that did show respect
for the loss of human life.

As evidenced by the GPL2 petition. ;)

Aside from that...I hope that nobody actually takes that seriously and gets
offended at that movie title.  The movie title was set years ago when they
started filming the trilogy, and years before that when the books were
written!
