I am trying to decide which P 2 300 to purchase----just for N2 on and off line racing. Any suggestions or cautions in which way to go? Anybody had good or bad experience with either setup??? Thanks

I got a Dell 233 mmx system a few months ago, absolutely love it! Support
has been great also.

I have a Gateway P5-166MMX with 32mb of SDRAM. The computer itself has
been flawless. I was attempting to contact tech support to ask a few
questions regarding my motherboard. No problem... just wanted to get
some info. Was impossible. IF you purchase the Gold PREMIUM svc plan..
you get a "special" 800 to call. Otherwise... its very hard to get tech
support.
I found that on their AOL bulletin board you can get answers within 24
hours as long as its a week day.
Computer is great. Svc is so so.
I cant speak for Dell, other than their reputation is pretty good.

I have a Gateway and paid the extra $100 for the Premium Service. No problem
getting through and they are very helpful. Good thing because I have to drive
past their factory each day and it would be even harder going to work if they
had ripped me off.

I purchased the Gold Plan... but it was not the "Premium" svc... I wish
I had known.

For what little I have used Dell support I have found it to be excellent.
Live tech support 24 hours a day. I received a service tag number with my
pc, when I call i enter it, and get connected to a tech person that is
familiar with my system. Only had to call them couple of times, longest
hold was 15 minutes, was few months ago though.

Irecently got a dell PII 266 and love it!!! I haven't had to call tech service
yet so I can't speak to that point. From what I understand and have read here
and other area's it's great though.
as far as the computer... not a hitch. N2 runs like a champ full graphics full
field. On the 19" monitor it's great and the altec 495 surround soun puts you
in the car. when you come around on the first lap and the field is still in
the pits it rattles the window-- just like it's suppossed to ;)
"...and that's all I got to say 'bout that"
Good luck on your choice!

My monitor broke at 7PM. I called Dell, and I had a new one at my door by
10am. They also took the broke one and paid shipping for both of them. Can
anyone esle say that?
As a PC technician I work on these systems daily. Though both are extremely
reliable units with excellent support and relatively few out-of-box defects, I
would personally recommend the Gateway...based on customer satisfaction levels
and the fact that I have NEVER seen a bad hard drive, system board, or power
supply on a P2 Gateway. Both are excellent choices however.
I used to do tech support for Gateway PC's and I ended up buying a Dell. I guess that should say something. BTW, I love my Dell and have been very pleased with their tech support when I've called them.

So in other words you sucked at being a tech support guy and wouldn't
want ot deal with someone like that when you called tech support? ;-)

I don't know about Gateway, but I have had Dell XPS133 for 2 years now
and cannot say a bad thing about it. I have a minor monitor problem, and
they had a new one here in a day. Top notch hardware for sure...way
faster than other machines with the same spec's I've found generally.

I just tried helping a friend of mine set up his N2 on his Gateway. I had
all kinds of trouble, and still can't get it right. There is a video
problem. It flashes like crazy, and we haven't found a cure for it yet.
I'm not that impressed with Gateway anyway. Dell is farther up the charts
too.

I read on this newsgroup a while back if you hit 0 for operator when calling the
gateway tech support you'll get right in, just act a little stupid:-)
