Hawaii: Two Radical Proposals

Hawaii: Two Radical Proposals

Running on Hawaii has just gotten stupid and I've got two proposals...

Here's why I think it's stupid now. I just got off a race at Dega' that
was a 5% realistic damage pace lap skill 0 - 15. I qualified on purpose
at the back figuring there would be the typical carnage. Boy was I
right. 4 or 5 cars out during the pace lap, more at the start. I qualified
25th, 15th by the end of the first lap turn 2, and I finished 3rd. The
only cars I passed on the track were damaged or stopped. That's just plain
stupid.

Here's the two radical proposals that I think would benefit everybody.

1. If you have a rating of 1 or better, don't race in a 0-15 rating race.
Let the 0's have their own races and let the ones who can finish get
a rating and move up.

2. Then, let's not have any damage in the races. The logic goes that if we
don't have damage on, then there will be too many crashes. Well the above
story, and many like it counter that. Without damage, at least we all can
stay in the race and compete.

I've been trying to nominate races at Dega with just those settings and
people just troop off to the damage on, 0-15 races anyway. I did get one
no damage, 1-15 race going and that was the best racing I have ever seen
at Dega.

I'd love to hear some comments

The problem with #2 here is that I consider races with damage turned
off to be an invitation to 'bumper cars' - if there's no damage, why
should I worry about being careful to make sure my car goes the
distance?

I figure if a race has one of the two levels of damage turned on, it
would be for racers who are aware that wrong moves are going to be
costly, and they would act accordingly.  This has not necessarily been
the case, but I'd just as soon not get involved in a no-damage race
for the reason spelled out in my first paragraph.

This might be different in a 1-15 race as opposed to a 0-15 race, but
I can't say I've ever seen a 1-15 damage-off race nominated when I was
in there to try out.
