Is there a beginners guide to GPL?

I have bought the game when it first came out but only played it once or
twice as I've never had the time available to "get into it".  Now the time
has come, I've picked up a steering wheel and am raring to go.

So, any advice?????

Cheers,

Mike.

- Get the latest patch 1.2 from papyrus.
- Use the default setups to begin with
- Learn a few track and go online (www.vroc.net)
- Forget any social life :)

Drive around Glen, crash a lot, swear at PC, drive around more, crash
slightly less, eventually get around several laps without crashing at
all, think "hey, I can do this!", go faster, crash again, swear loudly
at PC, get more used to handling, feel comfortable, change car, crash
even more than at the start, swear very loudly, get used to other car,
go round Glen in decent time, have race, get punted off by Surtees,
swear at Hondas in general, hav another race, push Surtees off yourself
(revenge is sweet!), finish race though low down field, feel happy,
have a beer, suddenly realise you can't drive straight anymore, go to
bed, get up, play more GPL, change to Monza, crash again, swear yet
more, get hang of Monza, think "I can really do this now!", change to
Nrburgring, crash every 50 yards, swear at Germans, drive round very
slowly, still crash, swear more, download some fast setups, crash all
the time, get used to setups, do a 3:30 at Spa, feel happy with self,
look at Schubi's site, see Spa record is 3:12, watch Greger Huttu's
replays, feel really depressed, have beer to drown sorrows, crash all
the time, go to bed, get up, wait for hangover to go, drive around and
around various tracks, finally get reasonable, go to VROC, crash a lot,
swear at all other drivers, give up, buy TOCA2 instead as you're meant
to crash in that.

Is that any help? ;-)

I recently bought a UK copy of GRL it came with a guide about setup,
driving...not so bad, of course it was american so all the measurements were
in sq/in, gal and so on but besides that it helped a lot.

What kind of measurements did they use in the UK in 1967?

Go to vroc.net.  Follow links to Eagle Woman's GPL site, Steve Smith's
setup guide, etc.  Follow advice for installing the 1.2 patch and, if
you don't have a Voodoo or Rendition card, the OpenGL patch along with
the Microsoft DirectX 7.0a.  This will give you the on-line ability,
graphic accellerator support for other 3D cards, and force-feedback
support.

Also, download WinVroc and join the F2 club.  A great place to
socialize and learn your racecraft in an enjoyable fashion.

You forgot the 3 steps to getting good at GPL:

1) Practise

2) Practise

3) Practise some more

Jan. ;-)

Ha! It should be...

1) Practice and swear a lot

2) Get AI Tweaker, slow the AI *WAY* down

3) Practice and punt them out of your way.

Best advice that I can give, Mike, is:-

(a) Be patient
(b) Choose a "forgiving" car to start with (Cooper or Eagle)
(c) Leave the car setup at the default settings whilst you become attuned to
the handling
(d) be patient
(e) Choose an "easy" (it's all relative!) circuit to begin your
training....say Monza.
(f) be patient

The BEST site for advice on driving, setups, etc. is Nunnini's site,
at http://nunnini.homepage.com/

At least that is what I was going to say, but apparently the site is
no longer operational. I get the messgage "Sorry, that user does not
exist".

Wasn't there another URL his site was at? A damn good site, sad to see
it not running anymore.
