CDMAG GPrix Legends Review.........Here !!

Hey it wasn't that bad, and I think this is what the Avault.com review
should had been, as targeting the more "mass gamers".  It's a fine
description, even with some little errors that are probably there during
that time...  Here's some great lines :

"You want a mere game? Go play Daytona USA, race boy."

"Fighter jocks can talk all they want about games like Longbow 2 or Su-27
being the hardest of the ***, but they've never faced a challenge like
completing a lap in Grand Prix Legends, even with all driving aids enabled.
"

"It's all about the physics of driving, of weight transfer, of friction, of
torque and horsepower. The resultant concoction is a wild beast of a car,
one that reacts horribly at the limit of adhesion and is somewhere beyond
twitchy and tail-happy"

"On the downside, all of this amazing physics modeling only works if you
want to commit your life to the game".

Now _THIS_ is what the avault.com review should had been more clear about.
This line is sarcastically wrote by the reviewer, still.  Especially with
what they write after...

"Papyrus scoffs at such thoughts, but beginner modes, which the game most
certainly could use, do not diminish the impact of a *** simulation;
instead, they give the game a learning curve."

If we point out the no-mention of the OpenGL patch (we understand that),
it's a 90% accurate to my vision of GPL.

Hmm... that link didn't work for me in IE4 (when I included the
"review.html" bit at the end. Worked fine in Netscape. Is there a limit to
the length of a URL?)

Re: CDMag's Grand Prix Legends review by Steve Bauman

Anyhow.. this review was MUCH better than the AVAULT's recent review. The
reviewer makes it clear that this is a sim, and even goes so far as to say
flight sim fans would find the challenge difficult. BUT.. he makes it clear
that this is a good thing if that's what you're looking for, and doesn't
bash it for this reason. Of course, he states that Papyrus might have been
better off making the game more enjoyable for those that aren't sim racers,
but want a good driving game.

He has his complaints, much the same as Craig Miller did, but he justifies
them, and looks at it from both sides of the coin. If fact, he even goes so
far to say:
"In the end, you may end up respecting Grand Prix
Legends more than you'll ever enjoy it."

He concludes the article by saying this:

"..is the type of simulation the *** fringe wishes
every game could be, one that screams 'screw the
masses, this is as real as it gets.'
While this single-minded devotion to absolute realism
at the expense of some playability may spell commercial
suicide, it delivers serious thrills for serious fans of
        serious simulations."

That's a damn sight better than Craig Miller's "I can still picture most
people returning Grand Prix Legends a few days after they buy it."!!

Now that is what you call an UNBIASED, responsibly-written review. Not
necessarily the best review ever written, but a damn good one considering it
was a fairly short review. Maybe Craig Miller could learn something here.
And after all of downsides (lack of flash, difficulty, graphics, lack of
race length choice in different modes) are carefully pointed out by Steve...
he STILL gives it 4 1/2 stars out of 5 !!!! Readers will know it is a
fantastic game, but at the same time they have been warned that it doesn't
necessarily mean they WILL enjoy GPL. Buyer-beware is the message - if you
like what you've just read - go for it! If it's not your cup of tea.. you
might still want to take a look, then again you might not.

Amen!

CDMAG GPrix Legends Review.........Here !!

I know I know.  "A 'good point'?! In a review??!!" I hear you all say but...

One thing that drops GPL down a few (a few ***Y WEENY) notches in my book
is that I can't change skill level and damage level with regards to race
distance.  The review states this pretty well.   I would love the ability to
race with any dang race length I want against any skill level and any damage
level.  That would be nifty.

Not complaining, just pointing-out-politely....
