Why NFS so uncontrollable??

by Lisa W » Sun, 24 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Hello!
I've had NFS for a year now but I haven't actually
played a full game.
I find the game so uncontrollable using either the keyboard,
joystick or mouse that it's frustrating.  A simple touch of a left
or right control and I'm in the dirt.

Is there any kind of fix for this lack of controllability?
I have a 486-66mhz system with an SVGA with 2meg video, and
16 meg RAM.

Thank you!  I keep coming back to this game to see if it's any fun but
it never is.  But it looks so good that I'd like to get it working
for me!

You want to know the fix?  Get a faster computer!  NFS will barely run
decently on a 486 dx4/120 and really needs a Pentium 120 or faster

I disagree.  Before I upgraded to my P166, I played NFS on a DX2/80
and it ran fine, but at lower resolution.  The key is the kind of
joystick you use.  If you are trying to play with a digital joystick
or gamepad, forget it.  You need a good analog stick, like a Microsoft
Sidewinder or Logitech Wingman.  Then you will have precise control
over the steering input.

I agree also, Todd. I had NFS on my old DX4/120 and it ran super-fine
full screen VGA, or small screen SVGA (whichever took your fancy).

Cheers,
Dan

If he has a Gravis Ultrasound that could also be the problem. Steering
was nearly impossible with that sound card. The GUS can effect the
joystick with many games actually. I switched to an SB Pro then a
Vibra16 and NFS was perfect with both of them.
