Without wishing to sound disparaging about NFS3, I hated it.

The eyecandy 3d effects are not worth selling the game on (it looks
like the 3dge engine to me), the car physics are abysmal and it feels
all wrong. I'd love to see a real life place where the police chase
someone down by crashing him off the road and running into him head
on. Okay, the stinger was cool, but easily avoided.

I'd stick to getting SiN (weak in areas, great in others) if I were
you or GPL which is worthy of a place in anyones software collection.

But that's just it, it's not real, it's a game, not supposed to be too
realistic. If games were realistic, they'd be a lot more boring. You'd die
in about 3 shots in SiN, depending on where they hit.

Sin and NFS3 are two differnt types of game anyway!  Someone who would like
NFS3 might not necisarrally be a fan of sin.  I personally think Sin is
lacking graphically, at least in the demo.  The graphics where plane boring.

GPL and SiN are two different types of games too, but he likes them both. He
wants to total realism (GPL), then he doesn't want total realism (SiN) (or
at least doesn't mind it not being totally real), then he says that NFS3
isn't real?

BEEP! Wrong. One thing many people praised in LucasArts' Outlaws FPS
shooter was that if you played in in 'Ugly' mode, it was realistic
when you, or the enemies, could get killed even from one shot if it
was a good & clear shot. It was more realistic than in
Doom/Quake/Unreal/whatever, and everyone I know liked that feature.

I personally find unrealistic driving games pointless, unless they
make it clear from the beginning they are not trying to simulate
anything in this world. For example Wipeout XL is fine because you are
just driving imaginary hover cars, but if NFS3 or any driving game
promises to let me feel how it is to drive Lamborghini Diablos and
Ferraris but have unrealistic feeling, they just broke their promise
IMHO. Adding a real car like Lamborghini Diablo in a game and then
making it handle unrealistically feels just pointless and oxymoron to
me.

The reason why e.g. Gran Turismo is considered as the best Playstation
driving game out now is exactly because it is accurately trying to
simulate how it is to drive the cars it has in the game. Too bad about
the lack of damage model though.

Understand: NFS3 is arcade (at least the demo) why the frag are you playing
a type of game you don't like? Of course you're not gonna like it! When the
final version comes out, and if the sim mode sucks, then you can complain,
but right now, it just doesn't make sense.
Outlaws. Yes, popular, cult following, but not _nearly_ as huge as Doom or
Quake.

I'm not too thrilled with the AI in the NFS3 demo myself, but I'm not as
picky as some. I, personally, don't use the dash option either (hell, if
it's going to blow up, let it) but, I can appreciate the option of
having one. As they say, variety is the spice of life. And, I just like
having a lot of spice. Also, it's just a demo, and there will most
likely be many differences in the final release. EA has promised dashes,
and I saw a screenshot with them somewhere. In a nutshell, about the
most helpful thing I can say is that I just placed my order for NFS III
today. The rep said it's due to be shipped in late September.

Peace...

NFS3 is the funnest driving game I have played in a while, it has enough
elements of realism to remind you your driving a vehicle while still having
surrealism to put you in another place... thats what games shoud do.

As far as a perfectly accurate driving sim, I find that pointless, why would
you play the game when you can grab your keys, make your way to the
driveway, and start up the real thing... now on the other hand... How many
times have you wondered what its like to outrun the cops? Or be the cops?
NFS3 does this like no other before it.

Some posters have said they already have the full version of NFS 3. EA says
Sept. 22 is supposed to be the release date. Anybody know where these full
versions came from??

Screenshots look alright, but the movies are hard to decide an opinion on.
With that lame-ass John Romero calling the shots, he is more concerned in
hyping the thing than showing it in motion. I've learned my lesson from
Screenshot -> Final Production. (Unreal) so you can't base it solely on
screenshots. The idea of the time travel thing is kinda cool though, but I
highly doubt they're going to live up to the promise of all the weapons and
enemies they're talking about.
But, how can you make a decision on a game which isn't even out yet?

Daikatana was postively the worst looking FPS at ECTS.

If you haven't got the demo yet, Get Shogo, and love it.
