Modem trouble 16550 vs.8250

by ga.. » Fri, 03 Jan 1997 04:00:00

I have a Hayes Accura144 modem and it runs just fine. That is until you
try to run it off of a 16550uart.I've switched controller card after
controller card and it only is recognized by the modem if it has the 8250
Uart chip.
MSD shows the Com2 just fine, but Nascar eterm gives me a  "modem not
responding" as does every other program. I've pored over every jumper
combination I can think of and I am just plain stumped.
I realize this post isn't strictly  sim stuff but it is related in
sort of an ancillary way.
  As a side note:
I finally made it to a race on Kahn dos and the terrible latency
on my machine was the impetus to finally upgrade (albeit only slightly)
to the better UART. Strangely enough Papy told me that the 8250 UART is
adequate for racing on Hawaii.
Any how, any help would be appreciated.

regards,
Greg
Gavel on Hawaii & TEN & hopefully Kahn& Kali

Set your connection to 9600.  It worked from me on my NewCom 33.6 that used
8250 UART.  It sucked so I got a new modem.  But changing the connection
before you call to 9600 might help.
