Yes, this what I meant, and I'm sorry for the confusion...Most anyone
who already owns a Rendition card will find the patch lack-luster.

Cheers!

looked pretty damn good to me, compared to what I have.

Unlikely, since the 3Dfx card doesn't support hardware anti-aliasing.
It will have bilinear filtering of course.

I agree.  Just put an 8mb Herc Thriller 3D in my machine, with a 3dfx
daughter board tethered on.  Can't imagine the graphics for N2 much
better than this.
I've put away F1RS for the moment...back to Nashville! :)

I don't expect the graphics to look much different. I'm just expecting
higher frame rates and that's all I really want from a 3DFX patch. I
don't have a Rendition card so a 3DFX patch is what I need.

Guess it is relative to what a person has. Compared to the way it looks on
my Thriller 3d though, the shots posted look very poor. Compared to
unaccelerated Nascar 2, they look pretty good.(Unless of course you have a
Thriller 3d....ok, I'll stop beating a dead horse).

It is unfair to look at screenshots and compare them to motion video
from a game.  A single captured frame never looks as good.  Now if
someone had some captured frames from the Rendition that would be a
fair comparison.  I know about the capture not working but there are
plenty of third party programs that will capture Rendition screen
shots just fine, like Hypersnap.

You're assuming that the pics were taken with one of the existing 4mb
voodoo cards.  It could have been taken with a couple of 12mb Voodoo2
cards running SLI.  At 1024x768, you probably don't need anti-aliasing.

OTOH, the Voodoo2 cards (if I'm not mistaken) do support anti-aliasing...

I have a V1000 card (Reactor) and i'm not impressed at all with the
jaggies I get right now.  From what I can see of these screenshots, the
jaggieness has been virtually eliminated.  To me - that's an improvement.

I had a V1000 card to...the Screamin 3d... and I was much less impressed with
the V1000 cards than with the V2200 ...the quality has much improved with the
Rendition V2200 series.

They wont be 10 times better but they will be better and faster...none
of that is a bad thing.

It removes a certain kind of jaggies - those caused by scaling "small"
texture bitmaps onto large objects. It smooths the textures out, thus
eliminating that kind of jaggies.

The other kind of jaggies  - the ones that would be fixed by
anti-aliasing - are caused by the edges of objects against a
background, and are not removed by current 3D cards.

I was told N2 will only support 640x480, even on v2. Have to wait for
GPL for 1024x768 support.

Lots of people are eagerly anticipating the 3DFX patch.  I also get
the impression that neither of you have seen the dramatic improvement
in visual quality that a decent 3DFX conversion gives you.  Am I
wrong?  Have you seen the difference between Quake and GLQuake?  The
improvement is no less than astounding.  Quake, for me, was ugly and
uninteresting.  GLQuake was, "Wow, this is great stuff."  The question
now is, "Will the 3DFX patch for N2 be done right?"  Let's hope.

Heh it's actually the first time me and Nosferatu don't contradict on a
points.  R.a.s. is a better place now ;-)

Well, consider also that the normal Nascar2 graphics are very well done.  I
tried Rendition and normal mode (all 2 at 30fps) and all I can say is that
normal mode is fabulous, Rendition is better.  It's the Cherry on the
Sunday. (Icr2 rendition was 2Cherries !).

The 3DFX patch is a gift they are making to you.  They make it to show to
all of you that GP-Legends and Nascar3 will support any types of Accelerated
board, and that Papyrus can make something else than Rendition.  GP-L will
be Direct3D.  And it will be great looking.  With a good framerate.
