Is Colin Mcrae Rally out yet ... and other questions

by Need2Pe » Sun, 15 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hi,

Is CMR out in North America yet ?

I tried the demo, it's pretty good.  Thought I had some problems
running it with the latest dx6 V2 driver (go back to dx5 V2 driver
fixed it), and the max resolution is only 800x600.  Also, I am using
MSFFPro joystick, is there a way to set up the control so that I
can use my throttle (z-axis) to accelerate/brake...I don't like push
the stick forward/backward to accelerate/brake.

The interface looks very bad (compared to the slick interface
in NFS3), is the full game gets improved ?

And highlights in full-version ? Night/rain condition ?  Will the
day of time change (and hence the background/or even weather
change) in the full version ?

THanks

No, Last time I spole to Codies, they said before the end of the year

.>Also, I am using

In the full game, yes, I'm not sure which demo you are using though. My demo
would let me use keys only.

Again, I don't know what demo you are using, but the proper game menus seem
slick enough for me

The full game features night, rain, storm, snow etc. You can't switch
headlights on as in NFS3, they come on at the beginning of a dark stage.
The time of day doesn't change during driving, each stage averages 3 minutes
and not too much can happen! If the stage starts wet, it can stop raining and
start again, but clouds stay the same colour etc.

The stages have a set weather and time, but you can get a hack from my site
(see below) that lets you customise practically everything!

Cheers!

Well, using the 3Dfx V2 DX6 drivers, CMR comes out all white.
I had to switch back to my reference drivers(DX5). CMR can
use joysticks, tho I use the keyboard. As for acceleration/braking
u can assign them to buttons, but I didn't explore the posibility
of using the throttle(ie slider?). I don't think u can assign speed
to the Z-axis...

Yeah, nice... u get this circular thing which u rotate to get each
option
and at the centre u get an animated pic. Menu navigation, I think is
similar to NFS3(only played it abit on a friend's pc) or Redline Racer.

Weather and time conditions are fixed on a particular track, so u can't
go like Monster Truck Madness and set rain and night on track X....
However, u have 4x6 + 4x7 tracks, plus I believe
2 bonus rallys(or was it stages). It's exactly as the API rally in
real life. Tommi Makkinen is missing tho.. :-)
I reside in Australia, and I was playing the Australia rally, and one
time I went, "Hey didn't I see that on tv?"...
Bad thing tho, it has some "console" features, eg u can only
do single rallys or stage time trials after u play the championship
and log a time. ie if u've never played a particular stage or rally
in championship mode, u can't play them in Single Rally or
Time Trial. Not that bad really, but naturally(unless u're good!)
the 1st championship u play, don't expect to place 1st!
There's also a driving school with Novice, Intermediate and
Expert levels, and 4 more cars(of 8) to be unlocked when u
place 1st in the Intermediate Championship...
The best parts about CMR are the awesome sound effects
and the LARGE number of tracks, ie 52!!!
With each stage lasting about 2-4 minutes, this game
will last a LONG time....
