I had very high hopes for this Sim (ok so that's a poor definition)
but it's hardly worth the time it takes to download.  I'm not sure if
this is supposed to be an arcade game or a sim, but it falls short
of both.  The physics leave alot to be desired and the sound
is pretty bad as well.  There's just no fun to be found and believe
me, I tried.  Two 4 lap races were all I could stand and then I
deleted it from my system.

Oh well, let's hope DTR lives up to it's hype.

Later,
Joe

What site is "mp"? I can't get a download of this demo from anywhere
but avault, where I'm getting a blazing 0.6 k/sec!

When I first heard of S.O.S in PC Gamer months ago, they said it was arcade.
In fact, they actually said something along the lines of don't expect this
to be a GPL.

I don't think this was ever meant to be a simulation.

REad some of the info at Micropose's website.  They claim sim there, but
who really knows what an overpowered undertired F1 car with no shocks is
supposed to handle like.  Hmmmm might be a primer for a new F1 game when
they get the shocks figured out.

Just got S.O.S...

I thought the sound in SOS was okay, actually, but the demo reminded me of
what it would be like if someone took the NFS3 or NFS:HS physics model and
tried to do a NFS version of GPL.  It wasn't all bad, but once you stray off
the asphalt, the physics go out the window -- MUCH worse than the "sticky
grass" in SCGT.

Actually, SOS also reminded me a bit of SCGT, too.  I think I'd have to say
that maybe it falls somewhere between that and NFS3/NFS:HS.  Not great, not
ALL bad, but definitely not a sim, and definitely not what I was hoping for.

Having played with the Gold version of DTR, I think it's far and away better
than SOS if you're looking for a sim as opposed to a realistic arcade racer.

I wouldn't say it sucks really hard per se -- it's just not what we were led
to expect.  If you view this as an historic racer with NFS or SCGT-type
physics (minus SCGT's advopts editor, that is), then it's a little easier to
take.  I have had some fun driving around with it, but the concept of the
car's "limits" are, uh, vague, at best.

Well as a guy who just typically enjoys racing games/sims of all kinds....id
have to say its slightly better than NFS cause of the historic appeal it held
for me...after playing the demo...i prolly wont run out and buy it (or
well...order it since im in the US).  But i almost definately will own it
eventually...mostly cause of my love affair with classic racing of any kind
(I'd buy a sim of the 1911 Indy 500 it it was ever made if that forms anything
to go by).

Then again with GPL's physics model and SOS's car shapes...oh what am i
saying....talk about dream mode.  But it was such a nice dream...<g>

I don't know, John. NFS has terrible physics, but feels more like
driving a car than this. And SCGT is WAY better - and I didn't even
LIKE SCGT all that much!

Just got S.O.S...

I still say the game is totally gross. It sure isn't a sim.
I don't even know how it can be a arcade racer, it's not even fun.
It's just a terrible game.
NFS Series has more feel then S.O.S.
Some of you call yourselves ***-simmer's and then you say S.O.S
isn't "that" bad... Whoa.. Scary.
I wonder if this is a sneak peak of the GP3 engine, LOL.
I've lost all hope for Microprose/Hasbro in making a "hard-core sim".
