The resolution was only bumped a little bit from I think 524x?? to 640x480.
Don't remember the exact one.  How are you getting 1024x768?
What's helping the most is the higher frame rate though, of course, although
it'd be nice to see in 1024x768 or higher.  netKar runs great on this at
1400x1050.

Well, Einstein, since this is a laptop your instructions don't help much.  I
can't find the power cable to plug into the monitor.  Any ideas?  ;-)

This reminds me of a tech support call wav file passed my way a year or two
ago.  The guy called to say that he moved the mouse to the left side of the
mouse pad, but still needed the cursor to go a little bit further to the left
and wasn't sure what to do.  He left a message and said he'd wait for the
return phone call..

Ti4600 video card.  I *think* GPL will led me go up to 1280 x 1024(can't
remember at the moment), but then the frame rate is unacceptable.
I wonder if the higher resolution helps people drive better?  One of these
years, I'll be able to afford to replace my 17" Compaq monitor...then I'll be
invincible! :-)

For me, a fast frame rate is proving to be the biggest help.  It's really a
huge difference going from around 12 to 33-36 fps (software mode). I can throw
the car around a lot more aggressively than before and still keep ahold of it
(most of the time).  It's much easier to drive now than I thought it would be,
and it's much easier to tell when the setup is understeering/oversteering too
much and what the car is really doing.

In regards to higher resolution:  I'm running netKar now at 1400x1050x32 and
it's smooth as silk, although for me anything over 1024x768 is pretty much
helping the eye candy more than my driving, it seems.

Everyone's different though.  We've both read threads where folks can't drive
unless the frame rate is over 50 or so.  I'll never understand that one...  My
first 1:30 lap at Monza was on a P-60 running 3-4 fps.  Maybe it's from
starting out on old computers where if you have maybe 30 or so polygons running
at 12 fps, things looked pretty impressive even without the textures :-)

I haven't tried NetKar yet.  I can't remember if that or LFS needed DX9, which
I haven't loaded yet.

You ran a 1:30 lap at 3FPS?!?  You da MAN!  It took me...well, longer.
But in N2003 and F1C, my car control improved as I lowered graphics to gain
FPS.  I first noticed in N2003, after David gave me some suggestion on what
settings to tweak.  I went from about 35-45 fps to 65-70 fps.  I'm still slow
as hell, but I don't spin as often now. <g>

I'm not sure, but I think NetKar is the one that needs DX9, if one of them
doesn't.  NetKar's really good.  I'm impressed with Stefano's work on this.
It's quite a bit better than I expected (and I expected it to be quite good
:-))  It was definately was worth the download and it'll see many hours of
playtime on my end.  I only hope it picks up so I can find somebody in the
states or Canada to race with.  The ping is too high from Europe.  LFS has been
my only online racing experience of this type (aside from the late 80's through
a 1200 baud modem with Stunt Driver, of course ;-))

It's well worth the download!

Thanks ;-)  There was a big time warp going on there though that helped me
substantially.  The sim was running at about 1/2 speed, which effectively gave
me Superman reflexes to combat the hideous frame rate and bouncing engine
sound.

That's one I'll have to pick up too.  I'm of course a road racing guy, but
think I'd have a ball with N2003 anyway :-)
