With the LFS H2 patch, shift-f turns off all the extra stuff on the screen.
This is great and more realistic (except you can't see your speed or RPMs.)
Does anyone know if the final version will have the speedometer and tach. on
the dash?  I sure hope so.

Speedometer in a race car?

..is absolutely critical - moreso in qualifying than a race though, I guess.

If it is so critical, tell me why real life race cars don't have them.

guess.

If I've told you once I've told you a thousand times, DON'T EXAGGERATE ;-)

It's not "absolutely critical". Steering is critical, brakes are critical, a
speedo is "useful".

Malc's right - it's certainly not critical but very useful.  I think F1 cars
have them, don't they?  You can use the taco to see if you're on the pace of
course, but glancing at a speedo is usually more helpful.  The reason that
most race cars don't bother with them is that they're usually minimalist and
don't want the extra fluff of a speedo.

A tachometer is more critical than a speedometer.  It's more accurate
and also gives you more information.  Such as whether you're in the
powerband of the engine, and to some extent what gear you're in.  I've
never seen speedometer in a race car, because they don't tell you
everytying you need to know.

The LFS cars appear to be representations of road cars, not race cars. The
GTi is a bit like a Fiesta/Focus/Saxo and the turbo is a bit Mazda/Porsche,
depending on who you ask :0)

But yeah, a speedometer in a race car is as much use as a CD player or a
cupholder.

The front of the GTi looks very much like a Pulsar to me.

As long as you're going faster than the other guys, it doesn't really matter
what actual speed you're going at.

Rubbish, all you need is a rev counter and a lap timer.

Bur in a road car, such as the current cars in LFS demo, I'd prefer to
have a speedo...
