AMA Superbike - Question about offline play

by Jo » Fri, 22 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Sorry for flooding the groups with so many AMA questions. But people
here have been so helpful there's just no better place for the
information! ;-)

My understanding of offline play is that there is no "single race"
mode, and I can't select my game mode (i.e., Beginner, Expert, or
Pro). As such, I have to play through the Supersport series and
championships before I can race against the AI on Superbikes. Is this
correct, or have I missed something?

Also, is there a way to set the race length? Or a cheat/save game to
upgrade my level? I'm finding beginner mode WAY to easy, to the point
where it is just boring.

AMA Superbike - Question about offline play

Two more questions, these ones about online - does the online Chat
room work? The one under "Info" in the user interface? I can't access
it, even for multiplayer racing.

Also, has anyone else been having trouble finding people to race
against? I've never seen more than three people online at once (in my
class, presumably beginner). And they always seem to race at the same
track, Brainard (are these people who have the demo maybe? that's
their only track)?

One more question - anyone else experienced problems after a race? I
just finished an online race, waited for it to end, and it just went
back to the race selection screen. No results, and there were no more
races to select from either.

Hi Joe:

For a single race, use the "Practice" mode.
This is on the Races screen (hit Races on the right hand "swoosh")
then on the left side just under the Big Race Button (TM ;)
is the switch to go to the practice setup screen.

Here you can set number of AI, number of laps, etc.
Pop in and out of the garage and you can select either a Superbike
or a 600 SuperSport class bike. When you join the race of your
choice, the AI will select the same class bike you have selected.
Then hit the Big Race Button ;) and away you go.

The practice screen will set number of laps.

Hit Riders on the right side swoosh, then select the
"Realism" submenu on the left under the race button.
On this setup screen you will find a slider
controlling the AI level. They are set low by default.
(For the non-racing specialist magazine editors? ;););)
The max AI speed is somewhat below what the best
online riders can do. I personally am comfortable around
75% of full for the AI. ;)

Hit slash '/' (default) in about any online screen to open
the chat window. There are several chat "channels" that aren't
fully marked yet in the beta test. When you first logon
you are on the general chat channel. When you join a specific
track & race event you will be on a channel with others at that
event. People on track and also in the garage can see the
chat. When you leave the event you will be back in the
general chat channel and only those others not in a specific
event will be on that channel.

Until we get all the bells and whistles running it will
be a bit confusing when you change rooms.
(Someone always sends a question to me just as I'm leaving
that chat channel ;)

Yes, at the moment the demo has The Colonel's Brainerd
International Raceway as it's only track.
