Kali and ICR2 ????

Kali and ICR2 ????

by Vladst » Sat, 06 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Having been a quiet Indy500/Indycar/Nascar/Indycar2 fan..  I have a
few questions which I'm sure someone out there knows about...

I remember seeing at one stage a parameter that allows you to play
network play on nascar/indycar2.. it was something like indycar
/n:1000 (or whatever socker number you want to use)..  I am wondering
if it is possible to allow to play this under kali, because there
doesn't seem to be that many serious local players around these parts.
Someone has to have tried it... Oh, and that patch fasico.. what a
drama.. All I can say is, how can you seriously expect to play games
under win95.. its a multitasker, so no matter how hard you try, you'll
never get 100% cpu processing your Indycar window..  nice idea, nice
concept, but fails in execution..

Oh.. are there any players of nascar/indycar in the Brisbane,
Australia area.. For the moment, I just want to have quick, short
spring races.. something fast and furious.

You can't play ICR2 or Nascar over Kali.  Kali and the Internet in
general has too much latency to play these games.  Cars would be
warping everywhere.

Maybe you'll never get 100% cpu processor power working on the game
but with all the "Direct____"" stuff microsoft is coming out with it
should come very close to DOS performance.

Hi Kevin,

Speak for yourself :)  I get better latency logging onto Kali than I do
directly dialing Hawaii (55ms/110ms Kali compared to typically 150ms via
dial-up). The reason you can't use ICR2 with Kali is because Kali
emulates an IPX network - ICR2 doesn't support IPX networks. It is
theoretically possible to get the "Multi" version of NASCAR working over
Kali, but I'm damned if I can get it to link to anyone. :(  Anybody had
any success with that at all?

Cheers!
John

John...

are you totally 100% sure that indycar/nascar doesn't support IPX??

Now, I realise it doesn't say it ANYWHERE.. but I remember ages ago,
someone had actually posted a message telling everyone that it does
support it but there were no docs about it anywhere.. it was something
like this...

indycar /n:????

where ???? is the socket number..  but its not the N parameter.. maybe
someone could perhaps disassemble the indycar exe and see if there is
such a feature..

Yes. :)

That's NASCAR that supports undocumented IPX play, Indycar II had it
removed. The net play is slightly expanded using the Hawaii client
"MULTI", but still undocumented and unsupported (doesn't stop me trying
to play over kali though!).

Cheers!

If you type 'nascar ?' at a dos prompt, you'll see that there is an IPX network
option:  '-n:userid', replace 'userid' with the userid of your opponent. I've
never tried it though.

John - good to hear you've got a fast connection to Kali.  Comparing NASCAR
latencies with an internet PING latency isn't quite apples to oranges,
because of packet size as well as the NASCAR sampling rate.  However, that
said, it sounds like your Kali access speed is good enough to take a closer
look at, and MULTI.EXE should be capable of establishing a connection
through the (unsupported) IPX capability.  You would need to leave the user
ID _blank_ to be able to establish a KALI link.  If you're successful, I'd
like to hear about it.
