F1RS...the BUGGIEST game ever?

by Simo » Mon, 20 Apr 1998 04:00:00

This is very strange,as I`ve been playing F1RS alot since I got it in
November 97,and Most of what you say,I havn`t seen.?
1.always had sound.
2.Never seen a black sky yet.
3.Never had any invisible cars.
4.Pit lane fine.
5.Fuel consumption is always in my setup after each time I go to the  garage
6.As long as you follow your own pit strategy, then it works fine(most of
mine are around 7-8 seconds)
7.All my setups are the same after saving.
8.Not sure about false starts,as I`ve never made one.
9.I don`t use the replay function,so can not comment on that.
10.Agree with you here.
11.telemetry is not as good as GP2,I agree.
12.Never seen a big frame rate slowdown, sometime slight at first corner.
13.Agree here.
14.Not true at all.
15.I`ve had and seen lots of accidents and breakdowns.
16.Menus are very slow.
17.agree that there should be a way to get out of the game easier.
18.I don`t use replay,so can not comment.
19.It`s never been a problem for me.

So to sum up,I`ve had plenty of fantastic race`s so far,and think this is
one of the best F1 sim around.
I also think you should check out http://www.racesimcentral.net/
to find out why you seem to have so many problems.

Simon.

F1RS...the BUGGIEST game ever?

by David Schi » Mon, 20 Apr 1998 04:00:00

I've occasionaly had sound stuttering with an AudioPCI card, which I
attributed to having the PCI bus being blocked by the 3dfx data and
due to clocking the 3dfx at high speeds.  If I exit the game and play
a MP3 file or something similar, the sound stuttering will clear up
after a few seconds.  When re-starting the game, it is always okay for
hours then.

One general suggestion (which everyone probably knows but sometimes
forget) is to reset your system to a default configuration.  No SST_
statements, no overclocking of cpu or pci bus.  If this makes things
better, then you can add back optimizations one at a time.

Not exactly in my experience.  According to reports that I've seen, it
only happens when loading a saved game in championship mode when the
humidity is 5% or so.  I've not played many championship races, so
only experienced it once out of two races.

I don't think its random.  It seems to happen only when loading race
that was saved when the pit light is on.  At least that is the only
time I've seen it.

Agreed, these are annoying design flaws imo.
Perhaps you are seeing the effect of saving a setup in GP mode and
loading it in single race mode?  It seems that in the GP mode the
before race start and after race start settings are not accessible to
single race (since there is no before race in this mode).

Could be a simulation of the random attention given by the human
starter?
Yes, the replay function is quite poor and it is seemingly a random
occurance whether it causes a crash on my system.  I rarely use it in
its current state.

You might want to check out the excellent program F1PerfView by Rene
Smit available on the f1racingsim site.

No problems here with a PPro233 (or even at 200).
I can't verify this.  Usually at the end of a 100% race, I'm so worn
out that everything seems loose. :)

Yes, definitely agree.  I'd like to see more mistakes made by AI cars.
Out of the more than 50 100% races that I've done, a few races have
the announcement of a yellow every few laps while most have less than
a half dozen yellows.  And it seems that the cars are removed from the
track very quickly, since very rarely have I seen any damaged car that
caused the yellow.

Yes, yes, yes and yes..  It took me a lot of getting used to, before I
could glance at the lap times without crashing.  A voice announcement
of lap times and other warning messages would be most useful here.

All I have to add is that even with these flaws, I get a lot of
enjoyment out of the game.  And I'm sure it will get better with
Ubisofts second attempt.

Something must be wrong with your system. I've been playing F1RS since
this Feb and I've never encountered any problem whatsoever.

My system:
Micron P200MMX
64MB RAM
M3D2 voodoo2
Matrox Millennium 4MB
Monster Sound
100MB Swap File
TM GP1 Wheel

F1RS...the BUGGIEST game ever?

by chri » Tue, 21 Apr 1998 04:00:00

I have had a few of the problems mentioned by the original poster but where
the game really heads to sucksvillie is in the multiplayer options.

I mean no qualifing???????????

In a sim?

And to top that off, you cant even decide what grid position every player gets
so you cant do some laps in single player mode and place each player according
to their performance... I mean, how hard would that be??

We wasted nearly an hour last night trying to start a 4 player race and let
each other past so we were in the correct grid positions at the end of
the first lap

what a waste of time

Also, you cant load your saved settings in multiplay so every time we crashed
trying to settle into the corrrect grid positions you have to manually set up
the car from scratch (REDO EVERY SETTING!!!)

The collision detection is also amonst the worst I have seen in ANY game.
You only have to look at gp2 or nascar2 for an example of near flawless
collision detection. In F1RS you only need to come within a few car lenghts
of another car on SOME occasions to make them end up spinning out of
control and out of the race

On several occasions the game got so horribly out of sync the player in 2nd
position ended up finishing BEFORE the player in 1st place by about 20
seconds!!

I mean, sort that out...

BUT, the damn thing is the game is sOOOO good that we cant stop playing the
damn thing... If only all the above issues were addressed

Common ubisoft!!!! This cant be the final version of multiplay?

Except for the black skies I did not see any of the graphic-problems you
mentioned. By the way: The US version is said to be buggy anyway.

The settings can be loaded (ofcourse if you have saved them before)

Ever heard of such thing as a ping time (lag) and lag ghost ?
The game gets information and till it gets next packet, the game itself
simulates the drive of other cars. So sometimes some car could crash into
you on your computer but on the other computer there would be no touching
at all (that's what I've experienced while playing over internet)

Yes, they should sort that out. I've seen that one on a LAN with PII 233
Voodoo2 computers too.

It's good, although, exagerating in the loss of grip when touching the
grass or the gravel.

Hehe, maybe next version (not only update) will fix that and MENUES !!!!

Are you sure

We play almost every week and have NEVER managed to load car setup during
a multiplayer game

I would understand that playing over the internet but not over a lan
GP2 could handle colision perfectly over a serial cable and nascar 2 with 8
player cars and 20 cc cars wizzing round a 19 second oval. There is no excuse
for f1rs to be so bad

It almost makes the whole race void, and you never know if the car you see
in front of you is actually the other player or if they are behind you on
their pc!

Yeah. That does suck. But I heard that was a design decision to stop people
cutting the grass on loads of corners. They could enforce black flag every
time it looked like a player cut the grass, but if it was an honest braking
mistake it would be bery annoying. The grass slowdown is just a
compromise.

I wish!!
Every new update we hear about we offer up 2 days of prayer and fasting
and sacrifice copies of gp2 to the f1rs gods i the hope of sommultiplayer
fixes, but so far we are denied

thanks
