GP3 is the best.

Look at F1 on TV, you see the drivers using all of the curbs ALL the time, they
make it part of the track and you don't seen them sliding of it too (well at
least not too often ;-))
If you get on the gras though, the handling does change, the car starts to bounce
and you loose grip.
So in that matter GP3 is absolutely realistic!
Ohhyeah, stay away from the curbs in rain, they may not like you ;-))

True, the main reason why I bought GP3. I hardly played GP2, but it's
fantastic that so many tracks and tools were made for GP2.
There even is a banked Monza for GP2 !!!!

If I can rememer correctly there were 170.000 pre-orders in the UK?

>Bendito, would you buy Powerslide 2, sight unseen?
>I would.

Believe or not, no. While I'm fairly confident that Ratbag would do a
good job with it, I'm not so confident that I would spend money in advance.
Who knows? Maybe they'd change the physics model to something which doesn't
suit me, or maybe they'd eliminate something which I liked, but other people
didn't. Unlikely, but not worth risking my hard-earned money. Fortunately,
Ratbag has always released a demo before the game has gone gold, so I've
been able to make an educated choice (same with GPL and Sports Car GT).

% I laught at all the people who think GP3 is crap, it is by far the
% best current F1 sim around. I also laugh because no matter how much

% of its similarity to GP2, which means we will have tracks, new carsets

So GP3 has unthroned f12k as the best current F1 sim around?  Hell I
remember when Pole Position was the best F1 sim around, but that didn't
mean that I thought it was the best sim (or race program around).  For
some, their racing MUST be in an up-to-date recreation of the
here-and-now.  That's fine for them, but as in the case of CPR (which
was the best "current" CART sim around), it sucked big time in my book
as an all-around racing simulation.  It's really too bad that all a
product has to do is recreate the current race season, and it's flaws
and short-comings can be overlooked....  In other words, had Papy done a
current F1 sim instead of 1967, it would still be the flavor of the
day....

% (Not that im saying GPL is bad, there just isnt as much stuff for it
% compared to GP2).

Is it really realistic?  Is it the physics or the driver in real-life
that keeps the car in shape while using all of the curbing?  I would say
it's the latter.  Which underscores why Crammond's games are so well
followed....  It recreates being a top-notch F1 pilot, but does not
simulate being a top-notch race car simulator....  That's the middle
road between Pole Position and Grand Prix Legends.  I like top-notch
race car simulators which require me to hone the skills of a top-notch
F1 pilot.  I understand (and am not bothered) that this places me in the
minority, but I find it rather unsettling that people think that racing
a F1 car can be that easy...

% Oops! I missed the 'power' in the argument. My mistake.

% 10-1 would be a better guesstimate as to the number
% of user add-ons released for GP3 vs. F1-2000+GPL.

But then GPL doesn't really need a whole lot of add-ons, does it....
life was simple in the late 60's compared to current F1.  A simple
helmet, goggles and some racing gloves just about took care of it....
No need to go out and spend all of one's efforts finding new sponsors
and thus new paint schemes and uniforms...  no need to change the track
lay-out every other week...  A yeh, them were the days.... Though things
were just beginning alter at the end of the 1967 season.... the buds
that would become F1 as we know it were just beginning to show
themselves....

But the underscoring reason you will find so many add-ons for GP3 (other
than it needing some <G>), is that the code is basically 4-5 years old
so it's an easy nut to crack....

% >I can't believe that there were over
% >100,000 pre-orders for this game in the UK.

% Since GP2 was the most popular F1 sim ever released,
% I'm not surprised at all.

It is physics what keeps the car in shape on the curbs, it all comes down to the car
setup,
the stiffer the suspension, the more nervous the car reacts on the curb (try it in
GP3!!!)
If you find the right compromise in the suspension setup, the car will absorb the
bouncing on the curbs and you can use them as part of the racetrack.
Try using the curbs in Hockenheim with a very stiff suspension, you'll loose it very
easy, with a better suspension setup, you can really attack them without having too
much problems, cause the springs absorb the bouncing.
I'm really getting tired off all these "so-called" top notch GPL drivers, okay GPL is
great, no doubt, it's got great physics, but a modern day racing car doesn't jump,
dance and slide through the corners like a '67 Lotus!!!
Wake up GPL-nuts, this isn't 1967, it's 1998 !!!

Roger
