two owners of these wheels :D
I've found mine to be great, once you know how to get rid of the
deadzone in the wheel. I wouldn't advise to convert it, as the drivers
won't work with it then (and you'll lose the paddles). No gameport on
your laptop?
Get the latest drivers, put it in split axis (mode 1) and edit the
registry to remove the deadband
Deadband can be set by :-
i) Go to Start / Run / Enter 'Regedit.exe'
ii) Select HKLM / System / CurrentControlSet / Control /
MediaProperties /PrivateProperties / Joystick / OEM / Saitek R4 Racing
Wheel (Mode X) / Axes/
iii) Select Axes / 0
iv) Edit the 'Deadband entry' ..... its currently 0x00000008 which
is 8% of FSD, if you think its too insensitive then try reducing it to
6 or 5.
v) You may need to edit each axis to get the ideal setting.
I set the deadband to 0 and it works great.
Only problem with mine is that the pots on the pedals are almost gone.
Overuse I guess <g>
One mod that worked well for me is to trim the plastic on the brake
pedal to give it more travel. A VERY nice touch once I did that.
