So what did you think? I had a pretty good time, but it was such a tough
track and with no practice on my side i was pointed sideways a good many
times, so i fell behind early. Was fun trying to catch whoever i could. What
did you all think of no yellows ?

I did watch the rest of the race after I stuck my car hard into the wall
after only 28 laps or so :(   The racing looked very good. Congrats to Mr
Huggins and the others . Everybody seemed happy after the event with the NO
YELLOWS rule..especially for Darlington. Turns 3 and 4 are a bastard !
I managed a few low 30's laps and that seemed to be the pace. But I really
need to practice some more to be able to run consistently . I also managed
to miss the start somehow which was embarrassing. I didn't realise how
quickly the race begins after the Happy Hour . I sat here thinking about
strategy and all of a sudden it was "drivers..start your engines". Oh shit !
Anyway, I enjoyed my, all to brief, race. Thanks a lot.

I think no yellows was a good idea here.  Trying to pass high or let
someone by low in three and four was a near certain trip to the wall,
leaving the entrance to three as almost the only safe place to pass or let
someone by.  I enjoyed myself in spite of being 8 laps down at the end.
I'm really impressed by someone going it on one pitstop! (My many pitstops
were clearly not the answer.)  :)

Have you tried using XP for nascar ?

Yeah I have.  For pickup races I use xp.  But as I own an aging Logitech
Wingman Fomula (black non f/f) I can't get split axis in xp.  I just prefer
to be able to brake and throttle at the same time.  Better control of the
car in emergency situations.  And for some reason I get a better connection
with my modem(also aging) under ME.  Yes, I've been through all the tweaks
and disabling services in xp.  For some strange reason(mind you, we're
talking Windows here) I get random disconnects under xp.
heres my specs.
Celeron 1.1g
Sound Blaster Live Value
geforce mx 200 32 meg
256meg pc133 ram
MSI 6337LE5 Mother board
Rockwell internal pci 56k modem
Aztech UM9800 usb Modem.
directx 9.0b

I think a lot of my problems are the M/B.  I never had problems with my
previous m/b. same hardware except for the processor(celeron 600). On my old
Abit m/b, the usb modem was far superior to the pci modem.  With the current
m/b, the pci modem is better.  Give an example.  If I ping an aussie server
for N2k3, at 200 with the pci modem, the usb modem will ping 350.  before,
that usb modem would ping roughly 180.
I'm not overclocking, so I know its not heat related thats causing the
screen freezes.
I'm also thinking it may be power supply.  I've had this one for a few
years.  Don't ask me what wattage it is. I'd have to rip the case open for
that:o) and feeling a little lazy at the moment...
Like I said, I've never had these screen freezes before.  I did3 pickup
races last night, no problems.  Actually quite happy with those races, got
my lpi up to 301
Hopefully within the next 6 months I'll be able to upgrade the whole puter.
It runs nascar well, but not with a lot of the eye candy.

USB Modems are not optimal for ***, especially.  They aren't a lot better
than soft-modems, and in fact I believe they actually are soft-modems, which
makes it a double-whammy.

USB is processor dependent.  When running a game as system resource
intensive as NR2003, the CPU is pretty busy and the last thing it needs to
be doing is managing USB or WinModems.  Or worse, both.
