RASCAR: Darlington

Well, it seems as if my experiences in RASCAR for this season are
going to be generally confined to the first 4 or 5 laps.

We went a few laps before the first caution, and I was running in 4th
behind Brian Oster.  On the restart, Pete Reston (running 2nd at the
time) lost his gearbox and slowed somewhat dramatically as we
approached turn 1. Brian made it around him okay just at the entrance
to turn 1, and I was trying to figure out why he was able to pass
Pete so easily.  It quickly became evident that Pete was having a
problem, and I we approached turn 2, I moved to go high around him
while slowing a bit.

At precisely that point, Pete moved high a little, and I slowed to
keep from hitting him.  Neil Charlton was behind me and couldn't see
what was happening, and rear ended me, pushing me into the outside
wall.  This turned me sideways on the track, and the 103 car t-boned
me, followed immediately by a strike from Mitch Alatorre.

The hit by Mitch was the death blow, flipping me down the track.
While I was able to motor back to the pits, I had to retire because
the crew couldn't fix the car.

I guess I don't have to tell you how much it sucks to be eliminated
by events not of your own making.  It was soundly "one of them
racin' deals", and nobody involved should feel like they could have
done anything differently.

In any case, I re-connected to the race while it still had about 35
laps to go, and the last 10 laps or so was a great contest between
Ginger Fletcher trying to pass the eventual winner, Brian Oster.

John, I think they carry this random break down stuff a little
too far. Yes they are trying to add realism to the game but I think
they either need a way to tone it down or turn it off.
Not much fun or entertainment value. Its a tough enough track
to deal without random junk almost taking half the field out.

Yeah it fn sucked...  When a car is perpendicular in T4 darl there isnt alot
to one can do.  I tried to go low but when I hit the apron I shot right back
up where you were rolling down.  My day was over too so don't feel to
lonely.

I had the same problem.  Made it to the pits, but the crew refused to budge.
I was out on Lap 1.

Papy has taken this engine damage thing WAY too far IMHO.

How many cautions were there?

I rode around in Tim's car for a while, but tired of the 2 lap sprints
quickly so I went out for a steak :)

They definetly need a way to turn it off.  My guess is that it would
probably be turned off in just about every on-line league out there.
The other thing that has allways bothered me about the random break
down stuff is the high rate of failure for the transmission.  You will
see several engines go during a typical cup race but you hardley ever
here about a transmission problem.  The thing that bugs me the most is
when the green flag drops on lap 1, and you are missing a gear...
c'mon that hardly ever happens in real life.

I am not surprised the crew couldn't fix your car... all of your oil
was on my windshield. :)

I don't papy has taken the damage model too far, I think they have
improved it for the better.  In real life when you wreck, you're out.
I allways bothered me too see a bunch of cars pound the wall and be
able to fix their cars and not even lose a lap.  If you want that then
set the dammage level to moderate or none... we have it set to
realistic and that's the way I like it.

Well the race was a major war of attrition, but after the first
initial cautions, we had some really long green runs with the
occasional yellow thrown in.  It actually was pretty close to what a
real race would be like, IMO.

My DSL was down from Friday night to just now. :(

I had put in a bunch of practice this week at Darlington and was pumped for
the race.

Didn't say DAMAGE model.  Said ENGINE model :)

There are way too many engines going down out there.

I feel yer pain.  I went through the same thing when the Cox "SuperTech"
came out to change my line from the analog to digital system.  My 10 minute
update took me offline for 4 days.
