together this table that shows average lap speeds for the Watkins Glen
track ......

Yup, with a chicane included...The best WC laps are 121-123 MPH. Same as
'67 F1:)

   Yes, because I find that the stock cars are more stable than 1967 F1
and because you have 800 hp at your disposal versus 410 hp in a grand
prix. I guess the weight of the cars does account for the difference...

Ahh, but the track was changed in about 1970...  It's true that the "short
track" at Watkins is similar in shape to the earlier track, but there were
quite a few changes.  So lap time comparisons aren't apples to apples...

I think on the same track the winston cup cars would be faster.
